Simply A Masterpiece
Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.
It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.
This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
i am a hardcore Vin Disel fan i have seen his every film & have collected few too like those Riddick & triple x series even fast and furious ones but this film knock around guys 2001 is complete nonsense not only Vin diesel get wasted here but along with him a very talented actor John Malcovich too i mean what the hell were these 2 doing here these guys are legends what made them sign the contract for this film is beyond me didn't hey read the script.there is no story in this film its just a wannabe mafia movie with same old cliché of gangsters fighting over money for those guys who are looking for action will be disappointed as there is none here so move along please the direction sucked also i mean this film tries too hard to be cool but fails the pace is way too slow & whoever wrote the dialogs needs to be fired.the whole cast of this film sucks & what is Seth green doing here this guy sucks in comedy as well so his serious performance is out of the question here.this is one of the worst films Vin Diesel ever done sorry but its a fact, plus the project looks cheaper then a usual Steven Seagal movie.i have to warn you guys here on IMDb please don't even think of buying this DVD it is a waste of time & moneyits films like this ruin the name of Hollywood my rating for Knockaround Guys 2001 is 1/10 Skipp It.
The plot was interesting; a son who couldn't make it in the real world because of who his father is... once fed up he tries to get into the family business but doesn't understand that the lifestyle can't suit him because you need to do this sort of work out of a necessity for it rather than do it as a job.The scenario was fascinating.. I watched this many times. What I liked about the movie is the two aspects:Italian mafia families crumbling from decades long indictments and persecutions.Small hillbilly towns run by sheriffs the way they like; with an unwelcome sense for any outsider coming into town. Then when all parties meet together, the scene is quite interesting as you see the city meet the village and the differences between both.
The Knockaround Guys a crime dramas that try to hit that Goodfellas feel but miss completely. Now saying that it is not bad at all it is entertaining and a fun film to watch. This will add elements of comedy in there some cool action by Vin Diesel of course but the storyline is what it fails at it is just such a lame ass ending that you just think wow they really had no clue where they were going with this. The story is about these four wannabe mobsters when I say wannabe they are in the business but the guys higher up see them as lackeys and use them to do small tasks. Yet each of them want to be higher in the business and seen a equals to the bosses. The four guys are Matty Demaret (Barry Pepper)who is the main mob bosses son and wants to prove himself. Chris Scarpa (Andy Davoli) who is some playboy who just wants more then to run a restaurant, and you got Johnny Marbles (Seth Green) is a recovering addict and just wants to prove he is not a screwup last the big guy Taylor Reese (Vin Diesel) who is actually done with "the life" and can't get out.So the pilot Johnny is to transport a bag of money from point a to b simple but he screws up and loses it which means he will probably die. So he calls his friends the other 3 guys to help him track down the cash. At this point the movie is good seeing these guys being small in the big city go to this small town and be the baddest mothers out there. John Malkovich plays the role of Barry's uncle and he just is not a good mobster he isn't threatening and doesn't seem like his plans are even thought out. The biggest flaw is the ending because with out spoiling anything there is a Mexican stand off that just is a waste of time most because there is no tension and you know exactly what will happen. The writing isn't bad it was written by the same guy who wrote Oceans 13. Acting everyone but John Malkovich was good that is not his fault it was just how his character was.Overall this film is a low rental close to just saying see it on cable but if you rent it you would have some fun. This movie just doesn't compare to the Scorsese mob films. Low Rental
Just an awful, predictable, crude film. There's a reason it was in the can for about forever before it was released. Vin Diesel's soliloquy on being a tough guy drew (inadvertent) laughs, but there was nothing else with any entertainment value. And to think I could have seen The Transporter? Ouch!To paraphrase Vin's speech: 500 acting classes. That's how many classes I took to be a big Palooka in every film I'm in. And before I get to the 500, I realized that acting classes are useless with writing this lame ...Given the array of talent and big names, I had high hopes for this film, but there's no "there" there. It's like a slow-paced, American version of a Guy Ritchie film, with a bad score.
