This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.

Firstly, you will notice the smashing similarity with "Cloverfield" (that first person camera thingie), but it's even better! The landscapes of Norway are indeed beautiful, but it's nothing new here... Norway is practically 40% woodland, 55% mountains and rocks, and the rest represents agricultural pastures. Buildings and infrastructure have a percentage below 1%. Now, the Trolls... I like this idea of "documentary", even if it's not real. In fact, everything is so well made that you actually believe it's plausible! I enjoy SF documentaries such as "The future is wild" or "Alien Planet"; you know that everything is just supposition, but scientifically explained and logic-based, so you take it as it could be real! The idea of taking a mythical creature and put it in the natural world is brilliant! The Troll concepts in this movie, are pretty weird... They seem to be caricatured, with an almost cartoon-ish physiognomy (especially their large proboscis); but they're so incredibly well animated! They look so organic, with great textures and realistic movements; the way they react, move, their behavior, and the sounds they are emitting, makes them quite menacing, shocking and intimidating. But there's also the humor factor... there are many funny scenes in the movie. As the movie progresses, you find information about those creatures. The government somehow managed to hide them from the general public, and it looks like they have always existed there. I like that they are described as being a species in its natural habitat. Nothing magical about it, just incredible creatures. They are also classified in different subspecies... yep, no cryptozoology bullshit, no pseudoscience crap... everything is scientifically explained and it's weird that the story makes you believe it. There are even explanations about how some chemical reactions in their body make them explode or turn them from organic form to complete mineralization. Well, except the part where they smell the blood of Christians... uh-oh! There's also something magical happening in there! We should preserve those wonderful creatures... they should have a conservation status even... maybe they're endangered! But let's not forget that Trolls are... St00p1d, and that's actually a wonderful thing about them! The movie contains some intense footage, it's breath-taking, it even has horror moments, many funny scenes and dialogues and a bit of drama. An unique experience!

"Trollhunter" is reminiscent of Richard Matheson's book" I Am Legend," which concentrated as much on why vampires need blood, are afraid of garlic and mirrors, die if exposed to the sun, etc. The Trollhunter explains to college kids filming the Trollhunter's trolling for trolls the characteristics of the trolls, types of trolls, where trolls live, what trolls eat, why some trolls grow two useless heads out of their shoulders, etc. A veterinarian tells why trolls will blow up or turn to stone if exposed to the sun (hummm, sound familiar?). "Trollhunter" is a good film, and the Norwegian scenery is nice.

I saw this movie on the Netflix index with a fairly high rating so I read the synopsis. After reading it and seeing a trailer I wasn't moved. Eventually, driven by boredom, I watched it and I'm so glad I did."Trollhunter" is a found footage film (which is one of the reasons I was reluctant to watch) and it is great. The title tells you all you need to know. Some college students catch up with a trollhunter during one of his hunts and they discover the truth. As they tag along with him they find out that trolls come in all shapes and sizes.Part of the lure of this movie is that the troll topic is still somewhat untouched. There were some awful troll movies before this which may make some apprehensive about watching this movie. If you are one such wary viewer, don't be. This movie is significantly better than Troll or Troll 2. The details about the trolls was well thought out. The action was the correct dose and the special effects were very nicely done.If you've already seen vampires, werewolves, mummies, and zombies, why not give trolls a chance?

I honestly did not know which angle this movie was coming from and I can't believe it garnered a Blu-ray release. I always get annoyed at sentences like "footage has been examined by experts and found to be authentic" so I guess the movie started on a bad note. I gathered after a short time this was a spoof but if it was comedy it gave very few laughs (OK I did laugh at the troll eating Ned Kelly). Is using flawed science comedy? Didn't work for me. What ever angle this movie was presenting it didn't float my boat. Still I give it 3 stars for: A: Interesting CGI of trolls B: The cute blonde camera girl C: This movie is 99% filming of driving in cars, people running through forests, talking in camper trailers etc. Add a few dollars for some slime and a not so real looking dead bear and this movie was really done on the cheap so kudos to the producers for keeping to a low (and I mean low) budget.
