Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.

The film creates a perfect balance between action and depth of basic needs, in the midst of an infertile atmosphere.

Death Wish 2 is one of the most disgusting and immoral "mainstream" movies from the 80s. It makes the rest of the Death Wish movies look like cinematic masterpieces. It makes me want to rewatch "Death Sentence" with Kevin Bacon. It's pointless and cruel...it's scene after scene of ugliness and sadism. Some people actually defend the pornographic scene where the maid is raped and killed, saying stuff like: "the director wanted to show how awful rape really is!" Yeah, thank you Michael Winner (ironic name), for showing us that it's wrong to rape and murder people. What? Not one, but TWO rape scenes in the same movie? How generous. No wonder the author of the novel hated these movies. They completely miss the point. The point of the novel is that revenge and vigilantism is a bad idea. This movie does the opposite...and even then, it fails, because there's no hero to root for in DW2. He doesn't accomplish anything good...he just kills a bunch of scumbags. What a pointless movie. The Death Wish movies are often labeled as "right-wing" fantasies, but that's not entirely true. It combines the worst elements from both worlds. Right-wing extremists will love the "guns and violence solve everything" stuff. And there's nothing leftists love more than sexual deviance, profanity and eeevil Christians. This year, a new version of Death Wish came out. Judging from the trailer it's just more of the same sadistic garbage. Don't waste your time or money.

It's really hard to understand all the hate, critically for this film, like, Ebert's review or Maltins, who actually rates the third one better than than this. Maltin's a bit of a weird cat. You could actually say, it's, what I refer to as a stereotypical sequel, where there's a plain blatant excuse to make it, that having Bronson's traumatized daughter raped, and his maid killed (very familiar setting to the one in the first) after getting on the wrong side of this gang, who after clubbing Bronson on the head, kidnap his precious girl. This ultimately leads to a much worse fate, where another close soul is taken from him, where this catalyst, propels him back into gun firing, vigilante action. You can very much tell, the early rape scenes, have been cut heaps for the Aussie version, especially the one, involving the maid. The movie does has ordinary, uninspiring dialogue. I've seen much better in short film scripts. Who hired this writer? The film indeed has it's problems, with some unintentionally funny moments, one involving a kooky and confused psychiatrist, near the end, who's forgotten which way the men's room is. The hoods are very real, an early Laurence Fishburne being one of them, while the standout was Kevin Major Howard, a very underused actor, who at times, looked like he forgot his blocking. The line involving Jesus, where Bronson confronts him, is the one I'll remember. Jill Ireland is very good as Bronson's new love, adding a warmth to the film, while Gardenia (the old fogy detective from the first) visit's L.A. as pretty much knowing who this new hero/vigilante is, taking down the population number. With a bit of a comedown ending, relationship wise, this second Death Wish installment, is very lively, colorfully entertaining (popcorn fodder) and isn't a bad sequel, with some good plotting, the story going some places you don't expect. It's very 80's too, with it's share of violence, some of it a bit nasty and sickening. Hey, this is Death Wish, we're talking' about. One line in it, poses the "mulling over" question. "Is killing people who have killed people, right?" I don't have to mull it over. In my opinion: "Yes". Another opinion, is this movie has been wrongly vindicated. It is not a bad movie, despite this wrongful opinion from a majority of critics. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

The original "Death Wish" practically screamed sequel, and we get it here when Paul Kersey (Charles Bronson) relocates to Los Angeles and hell follows with him. Sounds like the Book of Revelations, doesn't it? Chapter Six, Verse Eight to be exact.Well, there's little of redeeming social value here, but it's not as over the top as the series would get with the follow up to this one, "Death Wish 3". You just had to know that when five thugs rape the maid, beat up on Kersey and kidnap his daughter, it's not going to be a good day. For the bad guys that is. Kersey takes his one man wrecking crew job seriously, and proceeds to blow away everyone who took part in the initial violence. Laurence Fishburne appears as one of the bad guys in what could have been a career ending move but things fortunately worked out for him OK.Catching these films in the series out of order, I was surprised to see Jimmy Page's name attached to the credits list as the music composer for "Death Wish 3"; little did I know he got the nod for this one as well. I already used the 'Dazed and Confused' analogy in writing up my review for that picture, but in keeping with the spirit of things, it seemed to me that the page Bronson was taking out of the Led Zeppeling songbook this time would have been something like 'Your Time is Gonna Come'.

After essentially being chased out of New York, "Paul Kersey" (Charles Bronson) has relocated from Chicago to Los Angeles in an effort to start life all over again. Living with him is his daughter, "Carol Kersey" (Robin Sherwood) who is gradually recovering from the trauma she experienced in New York which resulted in her father becoming a vigilante in the first place. Unfortunately, as luck would have it, a gang of young men break into his apartment and after severely beating Paul and killing the housemaid, "Rosario" (Silvano Gallardo) forcibly take Carol with them. Later on she is gang-raped and dies attempting to escape. This event results in Paul returning to his vigilante ways and his specific targets are those who participated in the death of his daughter. Now rather than reveal any more I will just say that, other than the location and the introduction of a couple of new characters, this film mirrored the first movie to a very great extent. Even so, it was certainly watchable and for that reason I have rated it as slightly above average.
