Don't listen to the negative reviews
Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.
After playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.
The acting in this movie is really good.
I've surfed this site many times, but never got an urge to subscribe to write a review. Sheitan broke this law. I just HAD to write what a ghastly piece of crap this movie is.I won't summarize the plot once again, since I see it is a habit of most IMDb reviewers to do it, so it's just unnecessary, and I'll skip right away to the comments. I mean, this film just makes no sense at all. You watch the first 20 minutes and you go: "Hey, when is something going to happen?". You watch the second 20 minutes and you go:" Hey, WHEN is something going to happen??". You watch the third 20 minutes and you go: "Hey, WHEN is SOMETHING going to happen???". I'm not kidding you, this movie lasts only 80 minutes (a sign of pity from the makers maybe?) and for the first 60, NOTHING happens. You are just forced to listen to the unbearable, totally unrealistic blabbering of 3 young retards trying to get 2 girls and to watch the freaky nonsense of the guardian played by Vincent Cassel. A doll here and there, a freak of some kind coming and going, a warm bath with more nonsense scenes, a bitchy girl just gotten out of nowhere, and just pure, plain nonsense. And THEN, when after 60 minutes of this torture, something actually starts to happen, it makes even less sense. The retards finally get chased, you just hope they will get quickly murdered, in order to quit listening to their pretentious, juvenile, scummish chatting about sex, girls, and God knows what else, but no! Only one of them seems to give us that relief, and right after that... it starts all over again!Meanwhile we discover that a man in his 40's or maybe 50's can lift another man with one hand and keep him hung against a wall for maybe half a minute or so, and then throw him across 2 rooms. He can besides be hit by a car at full speed, recover in a few minutes and then fight with a guy in his early 20's and prevail. All of this, just to lead to an ending that is supposed to be creepy, but turns out to be only disgusting, plus obviously totally senseless.Really, stay away from this piece of crap, it's not even worth the effort of clicking on the remote to turn it off.
Considering the satanic name of the movie, I expected more out of Vincent Cassel's role. However with almost two-thirds into the film and just a build-up happening, the last one-third looked a bit tame. The camera work was great, the introductions were superb, the scene was set. But then the movie just went on setting more portentous scenes. It looked as if a lot of thought was given to the music and the soundtrack in the film as all the numbers were quite catchy. The characters were well thought out too. I wish they could have made the story line just as crisp and had some more gore from a supposedly demonic man! All in all not too bad. 5/10.
This film was a surprise to me. Surprising in that it had real energy and I liked the acting. Very believable cast and Cassel was once more superb. A real brute of a man. If you are expecting a horror film then you will be disappointed. It is in no way scary. There are a few moments that are unnerving which lend the film a certain edge. You never really know where its going and because of this I enjoyed it. There is no good guy bad guy narrative so it meanders but I did not mind this. It was shot nicely with a few 'doggy cam' touches which are always good if not overused. The ending was also a surprise. It skates along and before I knew it was finished. Packed with clichés but done with a twist. I will be looking out for what Chapiron does next.
Man, this was fun. It is very predictable, but still hilarious. I would hardly call this horror, since it never really tries to be scary. For the most part, it tries to be weird and funny. With a couple of other recent French flicks in mind I'm beginning to think that French people living in cities have even worse an image of their country folk than American metropolitans have of theirs. The predictability is stupid though. Same as with "Haute Tension" the film basically tells you how it's gonna end. HT tells you right in the beginning, Sheitan tells you half-way through. French movie makers seem to wanna create the Anti-Twist-Ending.This really is the French Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Only less massacre.
