Boring
The movie's not perfect, but it sticks the landing of its message. It was engaging - thrilling at times - and I personally thought it was a great time.
Blistering performances.
Extremely well acted, believable and heart wrenching, a zombie movie like few others.IF a zombie apocalypse could happen, I picture a world just like this.As with any epidemic, people panic and rightly so...But there's always two sides to every story and something horrible doesn't make it any less human, or less important to those involved, and that's why this film is so effective.Friends will turn on friends if they have to, people will commit desperate acts to save their loved ones...Typical human behavior. This film could be anytime, anywhere, is far too realistic in its own right...And THAT, is terrifyingly effective.Bravo...Bravo...
The Returned (2013)I'm sure every screenwriter is straining to find a way to tap into the zombie movie craze while it's hot. So here's the latest twist—an antidote exists for zombie-ness. Those who are now safely taking their medication are no longer zombies and are dubbed "the Returned."Of course, these are prejudiced against, and of course there is a constant search for enough medicine to go around—but I'm getting ahead of myself. The main point is that now we can have the threat of zombies without quite having zombies. So maybe this isn't a zombie movie after all!Except it is, and cleverly so. The leading woman is a doctor who is aware the shortage of medicine—and someone she loves (unnamed here) is one of the Returned, so it matters very much. Tension builds nicely in a couple of different ways, and the general mood (mostly avoiding the usual grotesqueness) is steadily intense. It's good stuff, and a nice surprise. I'm not sure why the overall rating is so low. This is a Spanish production with a mostly North American cast, so it's basically a low budget fringe film. It doesn't feel like it, however, so expect something solid. Canadian Emily Hampshire is the leading actor, and she gives it all credibility. If there is a weakness here it might be a lack of adventure—the plot follows its logical line closely and the small turns of events are not surprising, quite. Still, it's well enough done I say, watch it if you are inclined to this kind of movie at all. Or to a quieter kind of zombie plot.
This was a very unexpected take on the zombie storyline. I thought it was going to be a Direct-to-Video garbage movie. Instead, we got an original, well thought out movie that had a good storyline and good characters in the two leads. The acting was very good, as was the flow of the movie. I highly recommend the movie. I will say that the end when Kate finds out the synthesized version works, I kinda guessed that would happen. I loved that she was hunting Jacob and...whoever his girlfriend was. I would say it seems like a sequel might be in the works, but I doubt it, unless they called it something like The Hunt, with Kate hunting them down. Did Kate remind anyone else of Kate Mara? Anyway, good movie, and I was pleasantly surprised by the originality of it.I gave it an 8-star rating for the reasons posted above. I will say, this is not exactly a zombie movie, but more of what happens post-zombie outbreak.
Like most, when I started this movie, I was very skeptical. I thought it was just another throw away on netflix. I was wrong. This film is very unique and to be very honest, I completely different type of movie. If you are looking for a ultraviolet flick, this is not it. If you are looking for a thought provoking and honest film that deals with the emotional conflicts that would arise from a world of 2 classes, one with dormant infection ( like aids but worse) and one that is normal, then this is your film! I enjoyed the acting, and the fresh take on a age old idea. I like how it explores both the view points of the spouses and doctors of the infected with real depth. For the few scenes with infected, the makeup is great! The infected act like zombies, yet they aren't the point of the film. Rather infection, which becomes active when people who were infected with the virus during the outbreak fail to take their treatments acts a a fear for everyone in the film. The film deals with how we as a people deal with that, and what happens when we no longer have the resources to provide the infected with their medication. In short, this is a great and outstanding film! Please watch it!
