2010: Moby Dick

That infamous whale is bigger, badder and a whole lot stronger in this sci-fi reimagining of Herman Melville’s classic tale of the battle between man, sea and sea creature starring “Xena” alum Rene O’Connor as the (traditionally male) narrator. But the boat — now a high-tech submarine — is also bigger, and Capt. Ahab is as determined as ever to settle the score and take down the mighty sea mammal that maimed him.

OK this is kind of underrated. I would call it a 2.4. I do not think it is that bad. But still pretty bad. This movie has an awful story line. and an awful ending. Not a 2.4 that is what Scary Movie 3 is. Still this is really what I call a 3. Moby Dick (1930) is a good movie. Moby Dick (1956) is better then this. And that is an awful movie. Moby Dick (1998) is a better movie and that is an awful movie. Do not waste your time. And do not waste your money. Do not see this movie. It is awful. This is a big pile of whale pooh. See Jaws if you want to see something really scary. This is not scary at all.

Fun! Fun! Fun! (Also: Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!) This one rates at the very top of my "Perfect movie to share with drunk friends who like to talk all the way through." It's the brilliantly-idiotic offspring of the forced intercourse of Police Academy and Ghost Busters. The traditional characters are all there: The bully who wants revenge, the ass-kissing toady, the smart-aleck sidekick, the establishment enforcer, the nerdy techie, and the girl who should be wearing a t-shirt that says "I have the tits." As always, they are engaged in a stooooopid quest with such earnestness that I actually got swept up in the narrative.Barry Bostwick deserves special recognition. Not since Geraldine Page killed Ruth Gordon with her own handbag in "Whatever Happened To Aunt Alice?" have I seen an actor so ravenously chew the scenery. Heck, Bostwick digests it and defecates it back out, forcing the other actors to claw through the remains to locate identifiable particles of their supporting roles. He's Brilliant!!! The direction is so amateurish that a few scenes actually caused me to emit a tiny squeal of horrified delight. The CGI is 1950's quality, the script is insane, the sets are cardboard - I could go on and on.If you liked director Ed Wood's efforts, you will LOVE this movie!! To paraphrase Disney's Dumbo: "You will believe a whale can fly!"

I love this Trey Stokes joint!!! Herman Melville would definitely not hate this.Anytime you're recreating a classic it's important to pay attention to what the author was originally trying to say to avoid disrespecting the classic. Well ladies and gentleman, I can safely say Stokes has done it.He somehow managed to maintain the integrity of Melville's classic while at the same time putting that classic Stokes spin on it. You're going to see ol' cappin' Ahab, ya got Starbuck, Queequeg's in there. The gang's all here sailing you through the spell binding pages of the Melville masterpiece.

Words cannot describe how awful this movie is.Somebody must have seen this script and put up the money to make this ..... eerm sorry I guess they did't.Now I don't hand out a 1 rating easily, but in this case I will make an exception. How I managed to watch this movie in it's entirety is a mystery to me.Perhaps it's so you don't have to.For those of you brave enough to give it a look, you have been warned. The acting is terrible, the special effects laughable and the story is the ultimate insult to an absolutely classic book. The heirs of Melville should sue these people. If you are interested in a real Moby Dick movie watch the 1956 version with Gregory Peck or the 1998 mini-series with Patrick Stewart.
