If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.

The movie's not perfect, but it sticks the landing of its message. It was engaging - thrilling at times - and I personally thought it was a great time.

The Clapper was one of my favorite Jimmy Stewart movies. I especially loved Jimmy's hilarious imitations of Humphrey Bogart, Ratso Rizzo and Al Pachino. Oh. It wasn't a Jimmy Stewart movie .... ??Other than the poor choice of Jimmy Stewart wannabe Ed Helms to play the lead character ... a guy so unlikable his first wife "left the Earth" to escape him and his current lust for a girlfriend prefers one-horned goats. I think I was supposed to feel empathy for a guy who lives in a stereotypical L.A. apartment and makes his living "clapping" for cable channel "As Seen On TV" shows. I didn't. I kept waiting and hoping he would get hit by a bus. Nor did I feel any empathy for his choice of d'jour girlfriend played by Amanda Seyfried (who?) who honestly preferred to work in the change booth of a self-serve gas station until she could afford to raise one-horned goats in Mexico and befriend creepy old men wearing nothing than tightie-whities.If possible my empathy meter dipped below zero for the hapless schmuck portrayed by Russell Peters who was supposed to be a cross between Dr. Phil, Geraldo Rivera, and Steve Harvey as a reality TV show host. A guy so slimy I prayed he wouldn't get hit by a bus because I feared the bus would get hurt. His production assistant, played by Adam Levine, was one of the most miscast roles in history. My mind could not concentrate on one word of dialogue because all my eyes could tell it that I was watching Adam Levine mocking his own over-the-top caricature of a production assistant. If anything could save this nowhere movie it was two roles, that of P.J. Byrne as the shill show producer who targeted the role with brilliant accuracy and that of Tracy Morgan who played the lead character's best friend by ad-libbing his way through the movie just being himself thereby delivering an Oscar-worthy performance.Special mention goes to the cameo appearance by Mark Cuban who almost perfectly hit the nail on the head in the badly acted role of playing himself. If I were to recommend this movie (I won't) it would be for the opening credits, a blatant ripoff of Ah Ha's "Take On Me" and for the Mr. Blackwell award wardrobe of Naked Thomas that captured the entire essence of The Clapper.

The characters are obviously very flawed, most likely clinical. However, very relatable, and ultimately quite endearing. We've all adapted much farther fetched premises. GREAT MOVIE!

I was very intrigued by this movie when I came across it on netflix. I love Ed Helms and this movie truly shows his capacity as a serious actor. I should have known this was an independent film because it flowed very naturally and there was no glitz or glam, just real scenes with realistic people and dialogue. I have felt like Eddie and Judy at many times in my life, like everyone else wanted to be a part of something that I have no interest in. The two of them are simple people yet their feelings for each other and their general kindness makes them extraordinary. My favorite scenes are the ones with the two of them together and that is the only reason this movie does not get a higher rating is that I really wish there were more scenes between them and that we had gotten some back story on her to see what had made her feel broken inside. Instead they chose to simply illustrate that her life like Eddie's was also not going according to plan. I think her "damaged" animals that she loved so much were supposed to symbolize how broken both their lives were.Tracy Morgan was great as Eddie's friend, I loved the scenes with them together. There seems to be a lot of symbolism in this movie that might go unnoticed by most. I felt that the speaker not working at the gas station conveyed a loss or lack of communication among society. And it was interesting how despite the broken speaker, Eddie and Judy are still able to communicate and connect. It shows how special they are. The TV people in this movie were clearly the villains and brilliantly represented the parasites of society. This movie also shows how much the internet has ruined the minds and hearts of the average person. The world was willing to sacrifice the Clapper's life just so that they had something entertaining to watch on TV when they returned home from their own dreary lives. At the same time, it shows how much the internet and TV connects us all as in the end, everyone seemed to learn their lesson and feel for Eddie when he unveiled his pain on national television. My favorite scene is of Eddie and Judy in the food place on their "french fry date" and Eddie suggests that they eat inside because no one ever eats inside for some reason. It shows how nonconformist they both are, they prefer the peace and tranquility opposed to the average person. Then the masses only herd inside and ruin Eddie and Judy's peace and and quiet when it is pouring outside. Very symbolic that the masses only stop taunting Eddie when the storm later erupts from him and he confesses about losing his first wife and former life. Another reason this does not get a higher rating is because I felt that the ending while wonderful, was very rushed. It seems like they felt like it was enough just for them to end up together. I would have preferred more details. I guess they were going for less is more. Clearly the world had battered these two around enough and just deciding to be together despite it all is very beautiful on its own. This is definitely the perfect movie to watch if you just want to smile and fill yourself with hope.

This unrealistic romp around L.A. is unfortunately neither a good comedy nor a cute romance. The silly premise focuses on a poor schlub named Eddie Krumble, who is trying to eke out a living as a paid "plant" in audiences for infomercials. He wears various disguises, but eventually is recognized, achieving his fifteen minutes of fame on a television talk show. The romantic connection involves Eddie's love for Judy, a young woman who works in a gas station. The most unconvincing part of the film was when Judy feels betrayed and "stalked" when Eddie tries to locate her, using his newfound notoriety on television to reconnect with Judy after she left him. The plot line was absurd and, and the plot holes were wider than the San Fernando Valley. The filmmakers were not successful in squeezing any humor out of the reality tv plot. And they failed equally in the love story. The large cast of supporting characters who were the "eccentrics" of Los Angeles were disconcerting in light of the deeply troubling poverty, homelessness, and dire straits of Los Angelenos today. The exact area where the film was occurring currently resembles something between a Third World nation and a war zone.
