It is not deep, but it is fun to watch. It does have a bit more of an edge to it than other similar films.

You know, I already knew this movie would be bad from the get go. I mean, in the very first scene, Bobby wakes up hearing some sex noises, and then he goes there to see what's going on. He opens the door of his brothers' bedroom, and guess? His brother is having sex-- WITHOUT EVEN LOCKING THE DOOR. When the girl notices Bobby is watching them, she stops it and say "bye", jumping out of the window. Bobby's brother, instead of feeling embarrassed, says "bye" to her, holds Bobby and tells him "that's just love, you don't have to be afraid of it." I believe there is some magic trick in that scene; Bobby's brother was having sex in a take; than the camera shows Bobby, then it comes back to his brother, who now isn't having sex anymore, but smoking a cigarette-- he apparently lighted the cigarette in less than 2 seconds. In a day after, Bobby's brother gives him an LSD bottler, in order to see "different colors"; let's just NOT forget that Bobby isn't even 12 years old. After these happenings, I sincerely wished it would occasionally get better, but it doesn't. Now Bobby is in high school, sees a guy in the school's refectory, and guess how he starts a conversation with the guy? He just asks him if he wants to smoke some joint. What??? More ridiculous than that, the guy ACCEPTS, even thought he's a formulaic nerd that Hollywood loves to portray in every high school film. Oh, and he wears braces! WHY DO GEEKS IN MOVIES HAVE TO WEAR BRACES? I mean, ordinary people can't use that? Or, do all geeks have crooked teeth? I still hold on strong and watched some more minutes. After that, there are absurd scenes, like Bobby offering his friend's mother a joint-- albeit she's a redneck who has never seen that--, and worse than that, she ACCEPTS!! The mutual masturbating scene is also implausible, and so is the one in which Sissy Spacek's character CATCHS the guys masturbating each other-- OK, it may be plausible, considering their relationship, but it was extremely compelling! It wasn't necessary! In fact, all that I mentioned was ENOUGH for me to turn it off! "A Home at the End of the World" is a very bad movie that makes me feel sorry for the people involved in this, given the POOR storyline and directing. There are far better movies involving such subject out there, just look around!

The most frustrating, exhilarating and disquieting gay film I have seen… so far.Bobby is marked by death and ends up a young teenager with no family at all. He is adopted by the family of his best friend, Jonathan, with whom he had had some physical contact like most boys do. Their closeness can grow little by little but the two young men are so different that there is a chasm between their desire for mutual love.Bobby remains with his adoptive family and becomes a baker. Jonathan moves to New York to study at first but on the wrong motivation actually. His main character is that of a shy person who runs away as soon as someone has the slightest ever glimpse on his deeper and private life he wants to keep a secret. He is phenomenally in love with Bobby but cannot admit it in public. He ran when his own mother discovered the two of them on the point of kissing and a little bit more in their car. The mother would not even have protested but Jonathan got scared. When Bobby's adoptive family decides to move to Arizona in their older age Bobby asks Jonathan if he can join him in New York. Jonathan adores the idea and invites him over and there Bobby discovers Clare, the woman Jonathan is in love with and who is in love with him. Her only dream, after her divorce, is to get a child. So they start a ménage-à-trois and it could work well provided Jonathan accepted the idea of having a love relation with Bobby under Clare's accepting eye.The rest will be your discovery as for the details. But the film is very surprising and very sad in many ways. Clare will eventually leave with the daughter Rebecca one day insistently asking the father of the child if he wants to come along. He refuses to stay with the other man and finally realize, alone together, their life long love affair under no scrutinizing eye at all. That's absolutely fascinating: the shyness, the modesty, the shame and the shamelessness, the desire and the fear, the need to escape and the attraction in that gay couple that could live their passion along with Clare but one of the two cannot relax enough to do that. It is sorrowful to see how the woman and mother of the child accepts without actually saying so to move away with the child to let the two men free to live there love. And we are definitely saddened by the fact that this gay love affair that everyone accepts cannot be lived through without the two men being deprived of their own child, the woman they both love and who loves them both.Saddening and so beautiful for these two men to live in the dream and promise that one day the daughter will come back to inherit their beautiful house, their land and their business though that would be after an event they don't even identify but is highly probably death. For the meantime let them redecorate the girl's room for when she comes as an adult. You can't even cry on such a film. It is pure torture of the heart, the mind and anything reasonable in you. And that's the beauty of it.Dr Jacques COULARDEAU

This is a story of love, a clear eyed study of love. And what a better way to take a fresh look at love than to see it laid out before you in a completely new way. Like seeing the earth from space, it is the same earth but you understand it from a whole new perspective. It can transform your understanding of it. I was also struck with the time span, from childhood, through the formation and coalescing of permanent significant relationships and a look toward their future. All done with an honesty and clarity that is refreshing -- speak of "clarity of vision", this author had it and the actors brought it to life. Within a single line of dialog you could often see two or three changes of emotion passing over the actors' faces -- spectacular. The music only intensified of beauty of this dance. I think the author had such clarity of vision and was so true to what he was writing that his creation provides a true seed for myriad contemplations on what love is. Bobby learned the 'clarity of vision' in his youth. The first 3 scenes lay out the fundamentals: (1) It's just love, nothing to fear, (2) There's nothing to be afraid of in this whole pretty world. I'm here and (3) detachment -- I'm missing everything. There's always more, pal. And that is what he lived. All the deaths and changes and setbacks he had to let go of, but he is always reaching out to others with his love so he is always in an environment where there is love around him. These are profound, good and truly spiritual lessons to learn, and see how they hold true throughout a life. Great work.

There haven't been many movies to leave me in tears while causing me to laugh and smile tremendously at the same time. With other movies like "The Broken Hearts Club" and "Mysterious Skin," the beautiful love stories and tragic plot twists make this movie into a piece of cinematic magic. The subject matters of the movie are the reasons it didn't reach a wider audience in the end, but as long as the viewer keeps an open mind to the same-sex relationships and the drug usage then I feel everyone will come to love the movie.Envy, love, sadness, and desirers of my own emerge after watching this movie. There are so many things that touch me on a deeply personal level in this movie and I've got a feeling I'm not alone. If you haven't seen this movie before, I urge you to run out now and find it either at a video store or order it online. A word of caution: for your first time, don't watch this movie alone. It's not because it's too sad or horrific, but it would be good to have someone around for the passions that come up.I hope I didn't spoil anything for you, but there is no way to do this movie justice. And remember...while white may go with everything, it's a house and not an outfit they are talking about. And in the end, it goes from just being their house, to being a love-filled home.
