Memorable, crazy movie
In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.
By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;
Yes. Slender girls in microskirts with long hair of course!For those who like tattooed trash or twerking, er, women there are 100 other films (or indeed walk around your downtown) for those who love action and dialogue and eye candy, which is the point of cinema and entertainment, here is a film you need to own on DVD. I love the acting, the bodies, the faces, the acting and that it makes me feel like I am a man again.
The packaging for "D.E.B.S." makes it look like it's a slam-bang girls with guns movie with plenty of action. In actual fact, it's anything but. Although the movie deals with young and hot-looking women who work for a secret agent organization, there isn't a terrible amount of action. Instead, the movie concentrates more on a lesbian relationship that forms between one of the agents and the bad gal she and her fellow agents are pursuing. Sounds promising, but sadly this aspect of the movie never gets beyond a PG-13 level. As it turns out, no aspect of the remaining portions of the movie are particularly well done. The development of the other characters is very poor, with no other characters really standing out. The poor writing extends to the story as well; the secret agent organization is lacking detail, and there are some incomprehensible moments like how the female villain gets away when she's cornered two-thirds into the movie. It certainly doesn't help that the entire package is surprisingly shoddy, from the film crew being seen in reflections on windows to some absolutely awful special effects. In fact, the whole movie looks and feels like a low budget children's TV show like "Power Rangers Dino Charge". You'd be better off watching an episode of that show instead of this movie, since although the show is just as dumb as this movie, it at least offers some good action (and any episode only runs 30 minutes instead of being feature length.) To sum up, it's very easy to see why this movie was barely released to theaters.
I happened to see this movie on the Internet a couple of weeks ago. Surprising...and different. At first, you'd think it's a parody of Charlie's Angels, but not really. It's more of a send-up of the whole spy versus spy genre, except you've got two girls falling in love (sort of a spoiler here) instead of the usual guy-girl dynamic.I enjoyed it for what it was. The direction good although nothing special, but some of the dialog was truly funny and it had a rather nice ending. Jill Ritchie is a standout and Jimmi Simpson (seen in Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter) is solid. However, it's the romance (okay, spoiler alert) between Amy and Lucy which drives the piece.My only quibble is that the attraction between them was a little sudden and there was no hint that Amy's character was inclined the way she was. I wouldn't call this a totally successful picture, but it approached the girl-girl relationship with a breath of honesty and without stooping to stereotypes.
had hoped this movie would have gotten a higher rating. not sure why that is but perhaps people were expecting too much. went into watching this without any expectations and was pleasantly surprised by how much i enjoyed it. you have a very attractive youthful looking cast which helps, mixed with a lot of spy humor and a budding love story to boot between the lead actresses. if one hasn't seen the short which is also great, than you would surprised by the love connection between amy a.k.a the perfect score and super-villain lucy diamond who plans to conquer and take over the world. there's some really funny scenes ie. when lucy infiltrates the d.e.b.s secret lair than breaks into amy's room and kidnaps her for a night out on the town. during their outing which includes a pit stop at a club, amy and lucy get to know each other over a couple of beers. i also enjoyed the clips that show the two spending time together and the romance developing through clips of them having a soda, enjoying a sunset and other activities. while i would have enjoyed it more had they decided to include the extended love scene between amy and lucy, it still works without it. i loved the character of ms. petrie played by Holland taylor who i thought got the killer comedy lines throughout. while devon aoki who plays dominique got the least screen time, her frech accent was just atrocious and so was her character. aside from the one gripe i have, the film was a fun piece of fluff.
