Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.

Left Behind: The Movie (2000): Dir: Vic Sarin / Cast: Kirk Cameron, Brad Johnson, Chelsea Noble, Janaya Stephens, Gordon Currie: Wonderful film referencing the Biblical accounts of Revelations where the rapture has happened and those remaining seek answers. Total chaos erupts but journalist Kirk Cameron figures that he knows where to go for answers. He seeks a disc from another source that can prove useful. A flight captain arrives home to only his daughter but he soon realizes where his wife and son have gone. He finds answers within the wondrous scriptures of the Bible. It is the second coming of Christ and Cameron believes that world leaders are already being deceived by the Anti-Christ. Director Vic Sarin does a marvelous job at creating tension with Cameron bringing both intelligence and desperation as he struggles to make sense of it all. Brad Johnson as the flight attendant now realizes his wife's faith was true. Also with Chelsea Noble and Janaya Stephens among those deceived and corrupted. Based on the popular book series the result is a low budget yet satisfying portrayal of end times that seems to reasonably surpass the fine line between poor production and decent low budget filmmaking. It provides suspense as well as interesting theories for discussion for those scholars on the subject. It is a definite Biblical masterpiece with relentless power. Score: 10 / 10

Left Behind (2000)* (out of 4) Reporter Buck Williams (Kirk Cameron) and pilot Rayford Steele (Brad Johnson) are shocked with several passengers from the plane go missing with only their clothes left behind. Once back on land their shocks continue as millions are people are missing including Steele's wife and son who he always made fun of for their religious beliefs. Soon the reporter confirms their worse fear.I haven't read the novels that this film is based on so I can't compare the two and I understand that many religious people hold them and this movie in high regard. I'm not here to bash religion or anyone's beliefs but this movie was pretty darn horrible from the start up until the very last frame. I'm sure many will say everything in this movie is true and a warning for us but Cecil B. DeMille made some of the greatest and most entertaining religious pictures out there but he wasn't afraid to change things in order to make them more entertaining.I think the biggest problem with this movie is that it was made on such a low-budget and it contains so many bad things that it just never stood a chance. I mean, take a look at the horrid CGI at the start of the film as various planes fall from the sky. Things don't get any better once the "story" sets in because the performances and the direction are so awful. There are countless scenes where family members are crying because they realize that their loved ones are gone. Do these scenes make the viewer cry with them? No, we're actually laughing at them because of how poorly acted and staged they are. I mean, the scenes with the clothes just laying there like someone had set them out for work the next day was laughable enough but throw in actors who can't cry right and the scenes are even worse.Obviously this movie is meant for Christians but not for a second do I believe you have to be one in order to enjoy a movie like this. No matter what your religious beliefs are you should be able to find a movie entertaining. LEFT BEHIND is awful in every way imaginable. In fact, I'm really shocked at how big of a following this movie has because of how poorly made it is. Even if you believe the message it's giving, it's hard to get past the bad acting and various other issues. Is there anything good here? I'd say it's badness is so incredibly awful that the film remains entertaining throughout simply at how many laughs it gives you. Unintentional laughs certainly isn't what the filmmakers were going for but that's the only thing they were able to deliver.

This comedy tries to have all the gravitas of the 1978 film Attack of the Killer Tomatoes! to offset the insane premise the script offers up, but fails to deliver. This is due to the weak script, which both fails in dialog and plot, as well as acting that would put community theatre to shame. In a movie like this you need Shatner-esque levels of scenery chewing overacting in a lead, something that a washed up 1980s sitcom star cannot deliver. If the writing and acting isn't bad enough the cinematography and editing are amateur at best. Was this shot and edited by interns working for college credit and meals? It seems like it.All of that coupled with an absurdest script, which apparently is based on two best selling fiction books, makes this train wreck of a film not even worth the camp value for comedy.Apparently this is supposed to be some sort of cult film, but it seems more like a film produced by a cult.If you want to watch an absurd comedy watch the cult movie they were apparently trying to shoot for - Attack of the Killer Tomatoes!

I don't know why so many people thought this was a bad movie. Some of the "Christians" who have reviewed it seem to dislike the Christian imagery present in many of the scenes (but given the movie's subject, is anyone really surprised at how ubiquitous it is?), and such prominence may lead non-Christians to view the film in a light of detached skepticism, which diminishes any film's audience appeal. The characters' conversions to Christianity had the proper emotional impact, and while some might tire of basically hearing "God is the answer," to nearly every question the characters have post-rapture, you have to keep in mind that Christians really do believe that God can help you out of any problem. The movie is very true to the book. While leaving out minor details, it includes many of the prominent aspects of the book's apocalyptic nature, giving it an air of realism. I encourage anyone who wants to see the movie to read the series to find the whole story. So yes, you may have to come off your high horse of being "above" such a fundamentalist interpretation of the Bible's apocalyptic prophecies to enjoy this movie. But in the end, your experience will depend on whether or not you are able to put any anti-Christian inhibitions behind you.
