A Major Disappointment

I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.

There are better movies of two hours length. I loved the actress'performance.

Since the Kentucky Derby is this weekend, I decided to watch this movie again. I really don't need a reason to watch any thing Christian Kane is in and he is great in this movie! So are all the other actors in the film. I remember this race well and it's a great story of the little horse that could and did. Added bonus was getting to hear a little bit of Christian Kane's songs. Great Family Movie for all to enjoy. If you haven't seen it, I would say to definitely check it out.

I like this moving because it's based on a true story. Also if you watch any interviews with the cast, you learn that they actually spent time with the real people to learn the story before they played the roles so that they had all the facts so that it was "real" instead of acting. The storyline was great and you could tell the actors really had a true love for horses. I totally recommend it. 5 stars!!

I love this movie! It's too bad that family friendly movies, such as 50 to 1, is NOT put out by major movie studios anymore; except for Disney and Pixar! There's a little violence in the opening bar scene but much less than a Bugs Bunny Cartoon! AND, it's a vital part of the story, Which is a TRUE story of beating the odds! Why wasn't this movie picked up by a major studio! This movie should be seen and adored by millions! Look at the money that could've been made! If a movie isn't full of blood and gore, or magical and fantastical and made for tens of millions of dollars if not more, it's not worth making! The acting is amazing and the horse that was used was great! It's such a feel good, pick yourself up by the bootstraps movie!

Based on a true story, "50 to 1" is an excellent story about a thoroughbred race horse and the improbable race to glory in the 2009 Kentucky Derby.The film is successful in establishing the bond among the trainers from New Mexico who believed in the horse and in each other. The relationship that was developed most completely was between Mark Allen (Christian Kane) and Chip Woolley (Skeet Ulrich). After the two men met and became friends in a barroom brawl, the owner trusted his trainer so fully that, despite his mediocre background, the friend had the freedom to use his techniques for training the horse named "Mine the Bird." The balance of the cast was also excellent, especially the jockey who was conscripted at the last moment to ride in the Kentucky Derby. The filming was effective with location footage from Churchill Downs. The recreation of the running of the 2009 Kentucky Derby was also first-rate.Although it was a modest film, "50 to 1" was well-conceived as a film not only about horse racing, but about the camaraderie of those who love these beautiful animals.
