This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.
As far as I can remember today I have seen this movie for the first time on free-TV in my home country Germany and now I understand the reason. I guess the story is really well known: There is a hero named Os played by Billy Zane (yes, it is astonishingly true, that this truly second rate performer was allowed to play the opponent of Leonardo Di Caprio in the worldwide blockbuster "Titanic"), who concentrates some comrades-in-arms to rescue the world and the human race from the evil namely the demon Slate. This demon wants to destroy the whole world by using a very old, coded blackboard. His problem is that he is just in hold of one half of the board. The other half is owned by the before mentioned demon Os who is a former demon (what an interesting and funny coincidence that he is also a demon). So Os is the only one who is able to stop him. This hero, now has to build up his team that -what a big surprise- finally will win. We all had the possibility and luck to see many other movies about this issue in a much better way before. The unknown actors (now I also understand the reason for the fact of their anonymity) play halfhearted and just bad. Lousy effects, cruel actors, even worse screenplay. Apropos remembrance of this never wished for movie. You will definitely understand me as soon as you were afflicted with this sorry effort.
I rented this on a whim, and a semi-soft spot for billy Zane, who never seems to take himself too seriously. If you intend to watch this movie, don't expect a lot... or anything much at all. I am a believer of the notion that you can learn something from even a bad film. In this film's case, you could write a book. Granted, it was a made for t.v. production and probably had an appropriately small budget, but come on!! I've seen more entertaining and amusing safety presentations by airline stewardesses. The characters were all painted with broad strokes, the message was trite and the action was canned. I work for a video chain and so watch and recommend a lot of movies. I break them down into four categories: Must sees, not bad but not great, only see this film if there is a nuclear holocaust and you some how manage to make it to an underground vault and are stuck with nothing else to do to pass the time but watch films, and lastly movies where even if the previously mentioned scenario happens, don't watch this movie.. spend your time counting cock roaches. This one falls into my "see it only in the event of doomsday" category.
I have seen hundreds of martial arts movies, old and new, poor and sweet. I saw the front cover, billy zane + sword = NICE. Looked at the review on the back, something along the lines of those 'fighting that puts the Matrix to shame' sort of dumb. All be it (or is it one word) it was a while since i saw it, i can remember a few good bits but. 1. There was ONE i think decent martial artist in this film, the rest of them were slow, as was the actual fighting. And it was simple and bland 2. The seemed to be an eternity of training, fighting training? oh no sitting in rooms doing spiritual training trying to forget horrid things that happened in their past......zzzzzzzzz. WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO FIGHT.Anyway if like me u want a martial arts movie don't see this - 3/10 If you want a compelling lively story don't see this - 3/10 If u want to add this to 'films i have seen' then see it 3/10 for sheer underachievement and boredom
Need I say more? This was the the most horribly edited film I've EVER seen. Billy, Billy, Billy. WHAT WERE YOU THINKING!?!?!?!? The fighting scenes were really bad, using corny effects to create a feeling of "coolness", I swear this movie was just about looking good. There's NO believable plot, as its an attempt to fuse Chinese fighting styles with basic theology. The story of Good vs. Evil has NEVER looked any worse. I actually feel regret for finishing the film. If I had three thumbs, the third one would be down too. The only thing that I found to be of interest in the film was that it was more of a joke than a real film. I was laughing so hard tears were streaming down my face during most of the fight scenes. I had to cringe away when I saw the final battle, you could practically see the wires. In FACT, this movie was so bad, I registered here at IMDB.com JUST to tell you all how bad the movie was. TOTALLY not a good buy, I would NOT ACCEPT it even as a gift!
