Fresh and Exciting
The storyline feels a little thin and moth-eaten in parts but this sequel is plenty of fun.
It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.
Worth seeing just to witness how winsome it is.
It's weird how the animated movies based on DC comics are usually more adult than the actual ones made more for adults. I will admit that this movie has some flaws. I was annoyed by the fact that it showed Hal Jordan become the Green Lantern in literally the first five minutes! I just think the pacing could have been done better. I also don't like it how Boodikka was a villain out of seemingly nowhere. Still, I don't even know much about her from the comics so I guess I can't really judge. I'm not that familiar with the Green Lantern. I know a fair amount about him from the "Justice League" cartoon again. What's great is that the animation is nice. We also get to see so many Green Lanterns come together and contribute. This is probably the main flaw with the live-action "Green Lantern" movie. We got all this buildup to them working together but in the end it's just Hal Jordan who does all of the work. Okay, he technically does most of the work here, but we get a much better origin story with Sinestro featured as the villain. We get to see the other characters like the Guardians of the Universe partake in the story and it even takes a lot of risks with many characters flat out dying. While not as good as "Wonder Woman" a fine flick. ***
I like superheroes, and I like comic book movies as much as anybody. Having loved Green Lantern: Emerald Knights and being underwhelmed by the live-action movie, I found myself really liking this film. It is too short in length and I also felt it was rushed in places. However, there is much to like. The animation is very good indeed, the colours are bold and atmospheric, the backgrounds are detailed and the character designs are modelled well. The music is both cool and haunting and the script is humorous in a wry sense as well as suspenseful. The story, even though abridged, has some great twists and poignant drama and any tension is exactly what it promises. The action scenes are violent but very well-choreographed and gripping. The characters are mostly compelling, the titular character is a strong charismatic hero. Even better is Sinestro, possibly what makes the film, his motives are not the most surprising but not overly-predictable either but this is more than a standard villain. The voice acting is dynamic also, especially from Victor Garber and Michael Madsen. All in all, well animated and gripping. 8/10 Bethany Cox
i thought this was a very well done animated movie.it's the origin story of how Hal Jordan became a Green Lantern.i have no idea how close it is to the original comic book origin.but i do knew,i loved the story.i thought it flowed very well, with a good mixture of action and drama.i thought the voice acting was terrific.plus, they seemed to have a good script to work with.i found the dialogue to be really good,as well.none of the usual cheese we tend to see in many animated or even live action movies.i think this particular animated film is as good as any of the recent spate of releases by both Marvel and DC,and it's certainly as entertaining.for me,Green Lantern:First Flight is an 8/10
Telling the origin of Hal Jorden the Green Lantern (with some tweaks here and there), the Green Lantern Corps and Hal's arch-enemy Sinistro, this animated movie, while not as good as the previous Wonder Woman animated film, is still able to keep one's interest due to the pretty good amount of action in the film. While it's far from perfect it still did it's job, a primer to drive up interest for the upcoming live movie, well enough. Furthermore, the voice acting was good for the most part with some minor exceptions and it was well story-boarded. The animation, however, was a bit inconsistent. My Grade: C+
