Absolutely the worst movie.
what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
(No, seriously, I am going to spoil you. May lightning strike my annoying neighbors if I lie.) This is not a love story. Not exactly.See, I went into "Cherish" thinking it would be a lot heavier on the romantic comedy and not so much on the suspense. The trailer I saw was misleading that way. The truth is that it's a story about a quirky girl who finds herself in a boatload of trouble, and somewhere in there is a man with whom she could be quite happy--but the film zigged where I'd have zagged, and so there is no on-screen payoff for Zoe and Daly. Given the chemistry between them, that disappointed me. Still, it was worth the two hours and fifteen minutes I spent watching it on IFC, and Robin Tunney is charming as all-get-out. Also, I now want to explore the crawl space in the closet in the next room over.
This totally underrated indie movie has a wonderful cast, a great soundtrack of 1980s love songs, is set in San Franciso and has a very well-written script. Our protagonist undergoes major positive changes in her character as a result of being placed under house arrest for killing a cop while DUI. However, she is so beautiful that it is hard to believe she is such a loser in the beginning. Of course she is actually innocent but the viewer is the only one who knows it. Tim Blake Nelson is such a great actor, I really love him in this role. Even the villain is quite good and an amazing dancer, he made me want to be stalked. Sadly Jason Priestly looks rather fat. Go rent this one immediately!
Oh this movie had so much potential and I still recommend it as the soundtrack rocks and Robbin and Tim are both beautiful and so lovely to watch, but....this is an example, to me, of a good movie just made too fast or something, I was bummed because it just has such great potential, there were just way way way too many inconsistencies and unbelievable situations... i.e. the whole attic/shoot thing she was always jumping around in, the lovers never catching on, the new red cordless at the end of the movie, the wood plank suddenly not on the door just after she placed it there moments before....and the ending? (Spoiler Alert) actually just before the ending the fight with Mr. Psycho...it just didn't seem truthful, but I do like the fact that she took off and didn't get "saved" by her cute man and yet the emailing alludes to the possibility of them hooking up, even if at first he seemed creepy....so what I'm saying, rent it, but don't expect truthfulness to the situation...
I just saw the film "Cherish" on television the other day, and I have to say, I think it's a brilliant little film. I think Robin Tunney and Tim Blake Nelson are highly underrated actors who deserve our praise for their amazing performances. I absolutely recommend this film if you tend to like slightly off-beat, almost campy movies. It's not really a mainstream movie, but if you have the chance to see it, check it out. It's about this woman (Tunney) who people see as weak and helpless. She's quirky and her style and appearance match her personality. She loves music and throughout the film, songs are used to convey the theme and mood, almost acting as another character. She ends up attracting this guy who basically is stalking her and ends up ruining her life. I don't want to give away the entire movie and ruin it, so I'll leave it at that.
