The Tunnel
In 2007, in the midst of the drought and water shortages, the NSW State government has unveiled plans to tap into and recycle millions of litres of water trapped in a network of abandoned train tunnels just beneath the heart of Sydney. However the government suddenly goes cold on the plan and it is not made public why. There is talk of homeless people who use the tunnel as shelter going missing, even though the government states that there are no homeless people in there. This, and the silence from the officials and ministers, leads a journalist, Natasha to begin an investigation into a government cover-up. She and her crew Pete (Producer), Steve (Cameraman) and Tangles (Sound Technichian) decide to investigate the story in the tunnel.

Overrated and overhyped
It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional
The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;
An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.
Or was this just awful? Derivative to the point of parody but not self aware enough to play it for laughs. The lack of any spark of originality would be alright if it weren't also utterly unconvincing at almost every step. Add to that a framing device that sucks all the tension out of the drama and you're left wondering what the writers were thinking. It's hard to blame the actors as there's not much to work with, but they manage to either barely register or irritate. What frustrated most is that the setting is genuinely creepy and they even manage one good scene, but it's way too little, way too late. A few seconds of atmosphere in a seemingly endless ninety minutes of dreary exposition and aimless, hysterical panic is not enough. God only knows why the average rating is so high on here. Are people accidentally rating the TV series of the same name? Or have they been threatened with a sequel if they don't inflate their grade? Please don't make a follow up ... this was already a massive number two.
'The Tunnel' is a micro budget found footage horror film that holds it's own against most of the big budget horror films released in the last several years - and in many of those cases, surpasses them.The first quarter of the film has a nice slow pace, getting us familiar with the story and it's characters - which certainly isn't a bad thing. Although, I will admit, I was starting to get slightly impatient. The acting, for the most part, is solid all around. They say you get what you pay for, so in this case, they got more than expected. Once the group enters the tunnel, that's when the fun begins - the lighting is what it is, not the best, but after I realized they went for the less is more approach, the lighting or lack thereof is going to be a huge factor in the scares that lie ahead, and there's plenty. We never get a clear shot at the 'monster,' but they give us just enough to keep us interested. It's what you DON'T see, that really makes 'The Tunnel' a frightening fun ride. If you can find this gem, do not hesitate to give it a shot. Random Ramblings of a Madman: I hear there's a sequel planned, so hopefully they won't struggle for funds, the way they struggled here. It's fairly annoying seeing bad films like 'The Gallows' get the funds needed, while small films like 'The Tunnel' struggle to get released. Oh, and remember - less IS more. Do not ruin the sequel, please.
After hearing stories of homeless people living in the vast tunnel system that is below the city, and some reportedly going missing, politicians in Sydney suddenly scrap plans of using the tunnels as a water-recycling plant but they deny why the plans were scrapped. Upon hearing this, a journalist, along with three members of her film crew, decide to investigate the story. During the crew's investigation it soon becomes apparent that someone - or something - is stalking them, and it all quickly becomes a fight for survival.This movie is shot documentary style by showing footage that had been recovered from the investigation along with two of the crew members - cameraman Steve Miller and journalist Natasha Warner - retelling their stories of what happened to them. It is actually all very convincingly done and even though you know it's not real, it does make you think at times if the incidents actually DID happen.The creep factor for this movie is actually really good, and because it's shot from a first person's perspective, you get drawn into what is happening...you actually feel as if you're lost in the huge labyrinth of tunnels with the news crew. There are a good few moments you get to see what is stalking the crew but you never get a full-on clear view. However I think that's a good thing because this film is not about gore and what you can see...it plays on the fear of imagination and what is lurking in the dark. Sometimes what you don't see is much scarier than what you can see.Now, we all know that this style of movie has been done before - for example REC, Quarantine, and the superb Blair Witch Project - but if you enjoy these kinds of POV horror movies then there will be a very good chance that you'll enjoy The Tunnel. Definitely recommended.
This is a re-watch, I have not seen it, since it first came out online!, I Was no sure what to make of it at the time.This time around and kind of felt the same after wards and I think I liked it less then I did before. The movie dose take a while to get going, the build up first forty minutes of movie, the build was how to find way to get there, to make story about the Tunnel. I actually did not mind the build up and you get to know them and actually care about them in this movie. they all seemed to work really well together. As soon as they enters the tunnel and that when the movie start to movie a bit forward (And those Tunnels looked far to clean or was that just me!) And soon as one of them Friend seem to going missing, that when the movie really picks up speed and dose not stop until the end.The chase scenes in this movie was really decent and fun to watch, I did not find that thing or what ever that thing was chasing them that scary however I liked that fact you see the whole thing, when it's is chasing scenes, which was good tense scene.The acting I thought was decent in this movie5 out of 10
