Very very predictable, including the post credit scene !!!
So much average
By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
Blistering performances.
Like I was saying in another review, I saw this film on a list for best animated films of the 80s. This film definitely has a targeted audience which is youngsters under 10. I'm guessing adults like it for nostalgic reasons. The film has a good message behind it, good animation and whatever but you really should not watch this unless you are a kid. And here is something I don't get. The care bears have a power beam that shoots out of their chest called "the care bear stare" but they literally have their eyes closed while doing it so why is it called a stare? Whatever. This review is finished. 6/10 factoring in age demographic.
I guess I'm right in the middle for this one, because it seems to at least represent the Care Bears franchise well. I think I may have been a fan of this when I was really little, but I've mostly just forgotten about it. I'll give the series credit for being better than something like Barney. It does have more of a plot and characters. I actually found the animation in this to be pretty good. It does seem to vary in some areas. It's like different animators worked on it. So this movie's plot is that a guy named Mr. Cherrywood is telling the story about how a kid named Nicolaus found an evil magic book and became good with help from the Care Bears.Yeah, it's pretty dopey, but if you do have little kids who are fans of the series, then honestly, I think you can probably show it to them. It's just nothing too memorable. It does get rather silly at the end when Nicolaus has this evil voice. It did entertain me with how it was trying to be serious with this silly design. The plot's pretty dumb. It features one of the kids being given a key he has to keep safe. In the end, the villain destroys it...only for another key to be easily made. Uh, what was the point of that? This introduces the Care Bear cousins which at least expands onto the mythology a bit. **
Yeah, my cool defense is that I was 5 when this went down. So, Lucky Bear, he has an Irish Accent which, when you think about it and the fact that they all live and grew up and spent their entire lives in the same place, Care-a-Lot, just means that he has a speech impediment doesn't it?Moving on, this will give you near instant tooth decay. It is way too sweet and even writing that makes me feel guilty because I know I just made the caring meter go down. But it is brilliant, the concept is such that if you don't like you are instantly sort of a heartless git. A sociopath even.It holds your humanity hostage
When I was a small kid, this was one of my favourite movies - one of those I watched every time I was forced to be at home because I was ill, and believe me, it was something that happened to me quite a lot.First of all, I always watched only the Czech dubbed version of this movie, and since in my opinion those voices were masterfully chosen, it definitely added on the magic that is The Care Bears. That being said, maybe one of the reasons why I still like this movie is that there had been no madness with the same name, as some other reviewers say. True, the movie may seem as overly naive and even stupid to us nowadays, since we are used to see tons of blood and violence at every second step in absolutely everything, so this movie, focused on feelings, compassion and friendship is somehow alien to us.All in all, maybe it really is just naivety on my side, but I really can't imagine not watching this movie, once I've seen it for the very first time.
