Admirable film.
A lot of perfectly good film show their cards early, establish a unique premise and let the audience explore a topic at a leisurely pace, without much in terms of surprise. this film is not one of those films.
There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes
Unshakable, witty and deeply felt, the film will be paying emotional dividends for a long, long time.
This is the greatest movie ever made. After this one, filmmakers should have just given up. It has everything. Explosions, gunfire, and Chuck Norris! The bad guys hatch a scheme to invade the USA. But there's one thing they didn't bargain for. That's right! They didn't bargain for Chuck Norris! It's got some great action, did I mention explosions? And lots of Chuck Norris kicking the crap out of bad guys. It's a great movie for the whole family.
Invasion USA is a one man army movie starring karate man Chuck Norris. Chuck is a former government agent who is retired from the business and lives in the swamp and wrestles gators. Bad guy Mikhail Rostov is a communist that is leading an army across the USA via the Florida coast to create terrorist attacks in the United States to disrupt and destroy the American way of life. Rostov(Richard Lynch) is so scared of his arch nemesis Hunter(Chuck Norris) that he and his boys blow up his pad and assume that the Norris is dead and is free to spread terror across the USA. This is where Rostov is dead wrong and Hunter is out to get him and take down his army to save America. Invasion USA is about as over the top and ridiculous of an action movie as you can get. It is not grounded in reality whatsoever, there is absolutely no character development and the screenplay is a lot like Red Dawn(if it was written by a 12 year old). I can't really say that this is a good movie, but it is totally hilarious. There is all the cheesy patriotism and action that you could possibly hope for, along with memorable one liners, karate kicks, explosions, shoot em' ups. The Norris is invincible here with his twin uzis that he shoots the bad guys with maximum accuracy and he always is one step ahead of the bad guys and shows up to save the day in his big Bronco truck. The bad guys are completely ruthless and one dimensional, nothing but bad and only Chuck Norris can stop them. If you want action, director Joseph Zito (Missing In Action, Red Scorpion) has you covered. Invasion USA delivers the goods in the firepower department. See the ending conclusion where the hero and villain face off against each other with rocket launchers. Don't mess with the US or else you have to deal with Chuck Norris.
Chuck Norris in the role of ex-CIA bad-ass Matt Hunter, clearly a man not to be messed with. He is a one-man army who comes to the rescue of the United States when a spy attempts an invasion. Is INVASION U.S.A. a good movie? Well, it's okay, Chuck Norris doesn't do much in the way of martial arts and is off screen way too often, and the supporting cast is pretty weak (the two Cannon character actors I was all psyched to see, Billy Drago and James Pax, get about a combined 2 minutes of screen time). But– before you go throwing yourselves off of balconies– this is still a Norris/Cannon picture, and as such there are a handful of things that should tickle your fancy in this movie. In short, Invasion U.S.A. is a film about kicking several different types of ass,as the need arises. But one things for sure is that Chuck is clearly doing a lot of the stuff in the film himself.. Not just the stunts, either. He actually wrestles a crocodile. Yes it's hogtied, but I doubt Stallone or Van Damme would ever mess with it. He's also clearly at ease handling an air boat, along with multiple other weapons and vehicles. The only problem i have with this movie is that there is hardly any martial arts in it. But apart from that this movie has a crazy amount of action, including the destruction of an entire suburban street,so if you are in the mood for a mindless, action packed movie, Invasion USA starring Chuck Norris is the movie you want to see. It is actually a typical 80's Action Movie with lots of stuff blowing up with little conversation....what more do you want?
Invasion U.S.A. (1985)** 1/2 (out of 4) Absolutely insane madness about nut Mikhail Rostov (Richard Lynch) who plans to attack America by killing anyone in sight with hopes that the American people will turn against one another. His plans are going great until Matt Hunter (Chuck Norris) decides to ruin it.INVASION U.S.A. was panned by critics when it was originally released. They attacked the film for being mindless, stupid and just an excuse for non-stop violence. At the same time, those reasons for hating it are exactly why so many fans have flocked to the movie over the years and has made it one of the most popular from Cannon. In fact, I'd argue that from their entire catalog only DEATH WISH 3 is more insane and over-the-top.So, if you listen to the critics then everything they've said is true. The screenplay for this thing is downright stupid and whoever came up with the idea for this story must have been on some sort of drugs or alcohol. There's really not an inch of logic to be found anywhere in this film because you could have hours worth of debate on how so much doesn't add up. With that said, if you actually come to a Chuck Norris movie from Cannon expecting logic then you obviously don't know what you're doing.INVASION U.S.A. is without question one of the wildest, most insane and over-the-top action movies that you're ever going to see. There's really not too much of a plot but instead we just get one violent scene after another. There are countless scenes that happen for no reason than to show us violence. It's really amazing that Cannon was able to do all of these explosions because their budget must have been a lot higher than what they were used to. There are so many things getting shot up and blown up that you can't help but just kick back and have fun with it.I'm really not sure how many people get killed in this movie but it has to feature one of the largest body counts in history. Of course, Norris doesn't really have to give a performance here but instead he just has to look and act cool while blowing people away. Lynch is also a lot of fun in his role as the nut. Melissa Prophet plays the photographer but in my opinion this role should have been cut out since it really doesn't add anything. INVASION U.S.A. is about as crazy as you're going to get so kick back and enjoy.
