Simple and well acted, it has tension enough to knot the stomach.
While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.
Jason (Patrick Muldoon) works for the NYC subway. He becomes a key player when space spiders disrupt his system. His ex-wife Rachel (Christa Campbell) a proud graduate from the Kristen Stewart school of facial expressions, works for the city health department. Armed with their wits and a forklift they continue on their never ending quest to locate their daughter Em (Sydney Sweeney) battling the military and bullet proof spiders. The true origin of the spiders is revealed 35 minutes into the film. The special effects are low to mid grade CG. While there was always something going on, the film seemed hollow as if it needed another subplot of someone besides our lone family and the military. The dialogue lacked zing and the actors were simply collecting a paycheck. 3 stars is overrated for most people, but I love Christa Campbell's long hair.Parental guide: No f-bombs, sex, or nudity.
Just throw a bunch of Molotov and flame the spiders to death, shoot the eyes, cement the subway. the spiders should be dead half way into the movie. even bullets can kill spiders no mater how strong their exoskeleton is, shoot the eyes. for last resort, why not bomb the spiders in the first place.
Once again, I'm amazed at the number of less than flattering reviews of these movies. Are audiences so spoiled by mega-buck blockbusters that they can't take a decent flick at face value and enjoy it? Fine, you don't care for the genre. Okay, then go watch a genre you enjoy and leave the petty nitpicking behind.$7,000,000 (estimated) is not "low budget," so that group of hyper-critics can't denounce that. The story is fairly original (given a much worked over genre.) The film flows smoothly. Director Tibor Takács has done an admirable job of keeping the story on track and presenting it well. Lorenzo Senatore's Cinematography is excellent. The acting is quite good, actually. Patrick Muldoon, Christa Campbell, and William Hope deliver solid performances as do others. Someone commented, "Terrible CGI." Maybe it's me, but I thought the CGI looked pretty damn good. That was one heck of a lot of spiders wreaking one heck of a lot of havoc on New York.I can't for the life of me understand why some reviewers find it necessary to absolutely trash films. Most are entertaining and each needs to be taken on it's own merits. If these people don't like these films so much, then why do they bother to watch them? Just to mindlessly trash them? If someone is going to write a review, write one with some substance and forethought.Spiders is a well made film. It gets intense and delivers plenty of exciting entertainment - if that is what someone is looking for. If you don't like the genre, then don't waste your time.I recommend Spiders without reservation - if you like this sort of thing. I sure do!
0.01/10I'm a big fan of the first Spiders film, it was cheesy, fun and very entertaining and when I heard about this remake, I was like "Spiders got a remake, I wasn't expecting that," so I watch this movie, I thought it'll be fun, but man this movie p***ed me off, this movie is hand downs the worst remake ever made, this movie has no characters, none of the characters have personality, or anything that I found interesting about these characters. The whole movie was boring all the way, it was making me fall asleep. The spiders in this movie, don't look like spiders, they look like over-sized ticks, the CGI was really awful in this movie, speaking of CGI, this movie is filled with very bad CGI, like for example there's a scene when some people jump through a window, and they use CGI for the broken glass pieces. This movie is taken way too seriously, it tries way too hard, but then it fails. The dialouge is awful, the effects are awful, and the direction for this movie was horrendous, they take PG-13 rating way too seriously, so yeah this movie is an earth sized piece of s***t, don't see this movie, go see Spiders (2000), stay far away from this remake.
