Slow pace in the most part of the movie.
A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.
It is a whirlwind of delight --- attractive actors, stunning couture, spectacular sets and outrageous parties.
It is a whirlwind of delight --- attractive actors, stunning couture, spectacular sets and outrageous parties. It's a feast for the eyes. But what really makes this dramedy work is the acting.
Faith (Shiels) has gone into hiding due to an obsessive and abusive boyfriend (Daniels). She meets a Farm girl named Lola (Holt) in a club and takes her offer to stay with her on the family farm over the summer. Lola's creepy father (Sterne) Seems to be slaughtering things in one of the farms as Lola reveals her slutty side to Faith picking up guys at the bar and taking them home. Problem is that there is no sign of them in the morning. Lola was sexually abused by Dad while growing up and the two girls bond through the common ground of being damaged. A few late movie twists in the plot show Lola as quite unstable and dangerous as the truth is revealed all the way up to a controversial ending. This movie starts off on the wrong foot in its first scene by showing something that happens much later and giving away its impact. The developing friendship between Faith and Lola are handled well by leads Holt and Shiels and is the movies strongest attribute. There are a few hints at horror early on but it doesn't get nasty until towards the end. In many ways it plays like a thriller until it gets a bit gory in the climax. Writer/Director Stewart Hopewell keeps the story between the girls interesting enough to watch but that's about it. The horror borders on torture porn towards the end and the film manages a little suspense but no real scares.
Based on the title of this film I went into this thinking I was heading for a ride of blood and gore instead I ended up watching what would be my perfect chick flick. This isn't a fast paced movie by far, the first hour really only focuses on the relationship of the two girls and slowly, but interesting you learn about their heart wrenching pasts. The two girls spend their days giggling, having fun and going out at night to party while you start to feel yourself get pulled into the story. Before all the chickness gets to be too much the movie does a turn around and then starts the cringing moments that all us horror lovers love so much. There are some pretty nasty scenes which make up for the lack of gore all of which whirlwinds to a shocking end. This was a great flick.ZombieSteak.com - Discover a new world of horror films, designed just for you.
The past 8 films to die for have been mostly hit and miss, with some being amazing and others just painful. This one is a definite hit. With its artistic opening and very slow build up it creates tension through confusion. Forcing the viewer to constantly say "Wait what?" Despite the plethora of gorgeous women through out the film none are exploited to entertain the male audience. Which is a nice change from most horror movies, though it still has the classic bath scene, which apparently every horror movie has to have. The location and sets are wonderful, adding to the atmosphere of a beautiful yet lonely farm. Art scattered though out the film is amazingly top notch, giving even more eye candy and depth to the overall film. The DVD is a for sure buy having a lovely making of which had us all laughing, and the Miss Horrorfeast webisodes were surprisingly entertaining, and even had me jump out of my seat. The actors were all visually appropriate, however the acting was not very convincing. Though a lack of acting abilities isn't always a bad thing in most horror movies, seeing as how that was the only entertaining factor in "My Bloody Valentine" which was also quite an eye sore. However one actor did stand out, the young boy. He stole every scene he was in.The climax is very satisfying taking all the build up and finally rewarding the viewer for following along. The movie overall was very entertaining and very suspenseful, not overly gory like you'd think from a title like Slaughter.
Really? This made it into the After Dark series? This really strikes me as odd. I won't go into plot details because it's already been talked about. I'll just state my opinion. See below if you wish to compare your taste to mine.As a fan of the genre since I was 5 years old (I'm 35 now), and as a fan of the After Dark series, I do have to say that this is probably the worst movie I've seen in awhile. And I've seen some really bad stuff. I own about 3000 Horror movies and I've watched at least 200 in this past year alone. I've watched all of the ADH movies since 2006 and IMO it just keeps getting better every year. -Except for this one. Wow. It DRAGS. It's BORING. And not in the way that a decent psychological horror is slow. Nothing in this movie was done well and it wasn't even slightly entertaining to me. I found myself twirling my headphone cord and looking at the clock thinking, "What? There's still almost an hour left?!". This movie gave me the same feeling as I get sitting in the waiting room at a doctor's office. And again, not slow in a good way like Rosemary's Baby (with build up, character development, decent performances, good dialog, and an unraveling plot). This was quite the opposite actually. It tried to be a psychological thriller, but had absolutely no heart. It was very mechanical and redundant. Obviously, I was quite disappointed because I love this series. Please do not judge the After Dark series (Especially the third series) by this one. It's nowhere near as good as the rest of them. All of the others had something to grab a hold of, and many of them went far beyond that. This felt more like a made for TV movie that was rejected or something (and not because of the lack of gore, there are plenty of dead and tortured pigs in it). Very amateur, and again, not in a good way. Not in the way that we B-Movie hounds love so much.I feel bad writing this because whoever made it at least gave it a shot, but I really recommend skipping over this one and choosing something else from this series. I really hope this one doesn't turn people off to The After Dark Horrorfest, because most of the other movies in the series are extremely entertaining and fun! Examples of Horror That I Like: Phantasm, Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, They Live, 28 Days Later, Night of the Living Dead, Eraserhead, Texas Chainsaw, The Shining, Sleepy Hollow, Alien, The Amittyville Horror, Creepshow, Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things, The Ring, MBV3D, and all sorts of other classic, new, and/or low budget horror.
