I love this movie so much
Wonderful character development!
It's complicated... I really like the directing, acting and writing but, there are issues with the way it's shot that I just can't deny. As much as I love the storytelling and the fantastic performance but, there are also certain scenes that didn't need to exist.
Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.
In all honesty, this movies start's with the makings of a half decent thriller. Until, the storyline withered rapidly into an orgy of cheese-tardation, leaving this film in the realm of B-movies, if not TV movies. For example: Brea (the main character) get's into a car to try and get away from her pursuer, she puts the key in the ignition of the vehicle, and guess what happens? - The car doesn't start!I mean, seriously, either there's a HELL of a lot of cars in America that people have parked in their driveway that don't start, or, it's lazy, lazy, LAZY scriptwriting... It's so pathetic! That's basically how the storyline progresses; It gets cheesier, cheesier, and even cheeeesier... Until it's lost any glimmer of hope!Bottomline, the storyline is incredibly weak and juvenile spoiling any slight trace of potential it had in the first place! If you're looking for a no-nonsense, adult, gripping thriller movie, then this isn't for you! However, check out the British film 'Calibre', as that movie will fit your requirements.
A thriller spun around a serious topic, human traffiking. Unfortunately the storyline contains too many annoying «dumb decisions» so you may hear yourself grinding teeth saying - that's too dumb. It's too obvious to be a suspenseful thriller, and though the acting from the main characters are good, that doesn't elevate the storyline.
Where do I start, Paula was struggling to pull a genuine face out of the 100 stupid expressions that she did throughout the movie. It seemed as the whole movie was centered around her personal needs whilst flaunting her body at every possible line in the script. Whilst the plot had some credibility given it's centered around true events, the actors were wooden and unbelievable. They didn't have what it takes to pull a 'human traffic ring' gang, instead they looked like bums that hang out near a donut shop at midnight. Perhaps the director should've looked at the acting requirements for such roles in the movie Taken, at least the Albanians there had what it takes.
-Friends in skimpy clothing ambushed in the woods horror trope- meets -sex trafficking victims in skimpy clothing with no speaking parts- thriller. A relatively standard romp with the novel deviation that the four leads are people of color; representation is still disappointing as there are no three-dimensional characters and Paula Patton is as white-passing as they come. The plot is neatly built and concluded despite some minor hiccups of implausible reactions when characters' scripted idiosyncrasies take precedence over their survival instincts. This works best as a showpiece of millennial aesthetics with a parade of messy relationships, glamorous make-out scenes in an infinity pool, and slick cars winding around breathtaking NoCal country highways. Overall the biggest mystery is why Paula Patton's character sleeps in a bathing suit but swims in a bra and panties.
