The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;

This movie has a really clever premise in which a man is essentially living his life out of order; every time he falls asleep, he wakes up at a different, seemingly random date in his life. And while at first there seems to be no rhyme or reason to it, he eventually learns that there is a purpose, and that he needs to "pay attention." Turning the whole thing into an odd sort of mystery. It is absolutely fantastic.And then, about two thirds of the way through the movie, it all falls apart in a silly turn that reveals it to be a sort of knock off of a popular fantasy movie from the '40s. From then on, it feels pedestrian and rather maudlin.To me, this looks like a film in which the director had an imaginative premise but didn't really know what to do with it, and fell back on something very unimaginative. A number of people here have complained about the last two minutes of this movie, saying it doesn't fit in with the rest, but I'd say it fits in very well with the part of the movie I don't like, so I'm puzzled by people who like everything except the last two minutes. I wish the director showed the same consistency in his invention that he did in his brilliant short Validation, but admittedly it's much harder to do that for an entire feature.

I never feel more like an idiot than when I write a movie off or judge the proverbial book by its cover and then watch it only to discover what a gem I almost passed up. The indie film "Shuffle" is a perfect example of my narrow-mindedness. What sounds like a low-budget straight-to-DVD knock-off of "The Butterfly Effect" is so much more and is teeming with heart that movie could only dream of mustering up.A man named Lovell Milo begins waking up in different eras of his life. He's living out of order and aware of it. Cryptic messages from individuals in each time period tell him to pay attention so he can help save someone's life.Director Kurt Kuenne perfectly captures on film so much genuine emotion it's almost overwhelming to watch at times. Not overwhelming in a bad way. It's in that roller-coaster ride kind of a way. I can only compare viewing "Shuffle" to living an entire life and its experiences in an hour and a half. Every emotional sensation you could possibly encounter runs through your body as you take it in.All of the actors in the film give outstanding performances. TJ Thyne ("Bones") pours his entire inner self into the role of Lovell Milo. I can't imagine how hard it was for each actor to keep up with what season in their character's life they were emulating at any given moment.Dylan Spraberry does an incredible job portraying Lovell as a young boy. It had to be difficult because he plays a child who knows the future but at his actual age. This isn't a remake of "Freaky Friday" or "Vice Versa." He's 11 or 12 years old but knows what the future holds for him. Taking on a role that complex is a heavy load for any young actor to bear."Shuffle" is an uncommon film to find these days. It's a sci-fi time travel thriller which draws comparisons to movies like "The Butterfly Effect" and "Memento." Unlike many films of this nature, it ends on a high note. The journey to its conclusion is troubled and dramatic but the finale is exhilarating and doesn't leave you despondent. It's as close to a thoroughly balanced film as you can get these days.

Before I rented this on On Demand, I watched a free preview. It turned out to be the first 5-10 minutes of the movie itself. Before long, I became so enthralled that I canceled the preview so as not to spoil the movie!T.J. Thyne does a marvelous job with this mystery/drama/sci-fi mash up, and holds your attention all the way to the satisfying "Ahhhh...." ending. It did remind me a little bit of "The Time Traveler's Wife", but was different enough to be interesting. I actually enjoyed this more, because the ending was happier and more hopeful. The acting was superb, and I would not have known it was lower budget.I definitely recommend this! And if you are a fan of the show "Bones," as I am, you'll love seeing a few familiar faces!

This outstanding story of a man living his life out of order and his search for answers satisfies viewers on many levels. Dancing somewhere between "Memento", "It's a Wonderful Life" and a Twighlight Zone episode, the acting is heartfelt (including that of my brother from Fox's hit series "Bones") and while the production is low budget, the heart of this film delivers big! The story of Lovell Milo, whose last name seems first, jumps from youth to old age and everywhere in between while taking the audience through a dramatic journey beset with pride, love, loss, hope, despair and rebirth, sometimes simultaneously. This is a crowd pleaser!
