As Good As It Gets
The film makes a home in your brain and the only cure is to see it again.
I wanted to like it more than I actually did... But much of the humor totally escaped me and I walked out only mildly impressed.
This movie was so bad. The acting, the super weak story (if that was even a story), everything was just bad, and boring. Please don't waste your time or money on this one.
I almost didn't watch this one due to such poor ratings. I would be missing out on the most fun horror in this year so far. I watched the first movie the day before watching Prey at Night and I can easily say this one was so much better. In terms of horror the first part was better in quality when it comes to tension and the main characters. This movie was over all entertaining, fun, exciting and completely different from the previous one. These two movies are IMO completely different genres. This is a classic slasher with an amazing 80's feel that will stick to you throughout the whole thing. There are scenes that are memorable and will make you jump out your seat! Scenes that will be remembered as original, authentic and amazingly well done. The only lame thing about this movie is that if you aren't patient, the beginning of it may seem unappealing because the acting and story of the main characters is not really complex or original. The acting is a bit stiff at first as well...A bit of cliche here and there too. But as it progresses, oh boy that gets forgotten easily! I recommend this movie to all old school slasher fans, don't mind the bad reviews, you'll be missing out! This movie legit made me write my first review in order to let the audience know it is not a bad move.
I found the first to be slow moving and dull. I know it was intentional to build suspense but I just couldn't get into it.This movie had a much quicker pace but fell short by ticking off every slasher cliché. I did really struggle with the scene where the teens were invited to play cards with their parents instead of being constantly glued to their phones. Cut to the moody teen girl storming off for a cigarette closely followed by her brother under his mothers' orders. Both of them LEAVING THEIR PHONES BEHIND for the killers to destroy and neatly pile up with both parents' phones too! (Apparently when the they decided to look for the kids they also left them behind...) Then there was the scene towards the end where moody teen girl forgets about the gun she just used to kill the blonde doll masked girl. The male killer literally pulled up in his truck beside her and gave her ample opportunity to reach for the gun and end it. I understand with slashers that you have to take their poor decisions with a pinch of salt but some are really hard to look beyond. Despite all of this, I did somewhat enjoy it. I may never watch it again but I don't feel that it was time or money wasted!
I take back the incredible review I gave this. While it was a great Strangers movie, we saw one of their faces and they all died. The point of the first movie was no matter what the protagonists did, they were killed. It's supposed to be bleak and inevitable, but what makes it more terrifying is that you never see them, so they could be anybody. This threw the point out the window. They could have at least let the villains die in The Strangers 3. I'm disappointed to say the least...
