I really wanted to like this movie. I feel terribly cynical trashing it, and that's why I'm giving it a middling 5. Actually, I'm giving it a 5 because there were some superb performances.

This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.

This movie feels more of a comedy-drama than a comedy. While I was tempted to stop after 15 or so minutes (I usually stop watching after 15-30 minutes, and sometimes after 30-60 minutes), it managed to become better. The first quarter is funny at times but also boring. The next quarter manages to improve by being less boring when there is drama. The quarter after that manages to not be too boring, but okay when there is drama. The last quarter had good comedy and drama. Some of the jokes do fall flat, though, even if they manage to generally be consistent. In addition, most of the jokes were only mildly amusing.Pros:Consistent jokesDrama is good later onCons:Not really that funnyBoring early onScore: 6

The fourth instalment in the American Pie series may feel like an unnecessary addition after American Wedding concluded the saga of Jim & his friends on such a satisfactory note but American Reunion turns out to be a very pleasant surprise for it packs in a massive dose of nostalgia and manages to work solely on the basis of that particular element.Set 13 years after the events that transpired in American Pie, the story of American Reunion finds the original gang returning to the place where it all started as they gather together for one weekend for their high-school reunion. With over a decade behind them, everyone tries to find out what the other has been up to all these years but as always, things soon head in the unexpected zone.Written & directed by John Hurwitz & Hayden Schlossberg, this movie shouldn't even work considering that it neither adds anything new to the saga nor features any memorable gags which were offered by the last three chapters in heavy doses. It echoes a much relaxed feel when compared to its predecessors, an extra dash of sweetness in the returning characters and the nostalgic factor is in top gear mode here. While there are plenty of shout-outs to numerous past memories, the present life of these characters carries a funny vibe of its own. Stifler is still a crackerjack, Jim's dad is still the best, the humour may not be as crude & excessive as before but it still offers good laughs, the plot nonetheless feels a tad too long at 113 minutes, the heartwarming charm is still in tact, and the entire cast performs sufficiently in their given roles. On an overall scale, American Reunion is a flip back through the old pages that revives the wonderful memories of the past and leaves its mark in the form of a pleasant smile. Its plot is forgettable, the writers fail to come up with any outrageous moment of comedy that can match the ones present in its predecessors, but by riding on the strength of nostalgia and offering many welcome nods to the original, American Reunion will succeed in entertaining its targeted audience.

This is the fourth installment of the American Pie series. The gang is back and that's half the battle. Almost everybody makes a cameo; the MILF guys, Stiffler's mom, Shermanator, and even Nadia. Jim and Michelle are knee deep in childcare, and their love-life is in a rut. Jim's mom has passed, and Jim's dad has trouble dealing with it. Oz is a big time sports TV commentator, and has a flirtatious girlfriend he doesn't trust. Kevin has become the Mrs of his home. Finch is mysterious with wild tall tales. Stifler is stuck in a lousy job living at home making all the effort to recreate his wild high school ways. The gang's chemistry is back. It's great to see all the kids grow up and not grow up. The best part is the film's ability to incorporate all the franchise's history. And Jason Biggs shows the bits, somewhat squished.

With reboots and re imaginings and re-whatever's being the in thing in Hollywood, I approached this title with trepidation. What made the American Pie series (not including the direct to DVD spin offs) such a class act was the way in which they injected heart and soul into a timeworn tradition of rude smutty comedies. They perfectly balanced dirty humor with cute sentimentality, and they paved the way for a spate of inferior teenage comedies in the early 2000s, such as Road Trip.I was worried that this long awaited 'official' sequel (I don't count the spin offs) would try to be too clever for it's own good, and keep the smuttiness but lose the heart of the AP series.Just a few moments in I was so relieved to discover my fears were unfounded. This movie is an uproarious welcome back for the class of '99, with characters, such as Jim, growing in a realistic fashion. The results are awesome to behold - Jim, no longer the awkward dateless virgin, is now realistically an awkward 30-something adult worried that his marriage is losing the spark. Stifler is still the infamous Stifler, but now he has t worry about more 'adult' fears like holding down his job and being nice to his jerk boss. The movie perfectly complements the heart of the first three movies, with the rude jokes we have all come to expect. And ever major character gets a welcome return and a kind of closure as the movie wraps up their stories nicely. This movie doesn't reinvent the gross out comedy, and it was never meant to. It simply gives us another welcome slice of one of the greatest high school comedy series ever. Welcome back, boys.
