Plot; Two men plot to steal the Declaration of Independence, which they believe has an invisible map on its back that points the way to a treasure beyond the imagination. You don't typically seek out this genre w/plausibility as a prerequisite, but even so, take that belief and suspend it before pushing play here. If you do, what you'll discover is a reasonably fun and clever adventure that's as earnest as you can get w/o crossing over into the dreaded corny territory. Making good use of treasure hunting genre conventions and freshening them up a bit by applying them to American history, National Treasure is a film worth unburying.

This my first such movie about treasure hunt, I feel like I want be an archaeologist. The main actor hunts for the treasure with his partner and a lady who works at the museum. He over come many obstacles to find the treasure. I like sidekick character Riley because he is so funny. The movie was good than I thought.I am very eager to watch the second part.

I enjoyed this movie a lot as it stars Nicolas Cage with not well-known actors/actresses. It is suspenseful with non-stop action and invokes U.S. History of one the most important documents of history--Declaration of the Independence and the origins of the U.S. founding fathers. The riddles, clues created by the Freemasons and Knights Templar are actually very clever to prevent the British from finding the treasure. The writers of this film are very clever to instill U.S. history with riddles and a endless series of clues leading to a treasure. Silence Dogood letters written by Benjamin Franklin kept at the Franklin Institute is also a clever method for a clue which leads to the antique spectacles. Yes, Benjamin Franklin was really a freemason. Nicolas Cage referenced famous quotes from "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." ― Thomas A. Edison and ..."when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.- Declaration of Independence. In truth there are 56 signers of the Declaration, NOT 55 signers as Benjamin Franklin Gates (Nicolas Cage) stated. This movie appeals for all ages and will retain audiences' attention throughout the entire film. There is no excessive foul language used, some violence. For any avid history buff, this movie will enrich your mind-- especially U.S. History. The question lies: Is there really a encrypted message embedded on the back of the Declaration of the Independence?

For this being a Nicolas Cage movie then it actually surpassed my expectations and hopes by quite a lot. It turned out to be a rather entertaining movie both in storyline and in terms of acting. And yes, even Nicolas Cage, with his one and single facial expression, managed to impress in this 2004 adventure movie."National Treasure" is about the Gates family who has been chasing after the fabled Knights Templar treasure for generations, but the entire scientific and historical society see the family as dreamers and don't take them too seriously. And when Benjamin Franklin Gates (played by Nicolas Cage) finds the first and all-important clue aboard a ship thought to be lost, then a wild adventure across America takes place. Gates is chasing one clue after another, while his former colleague Ian (played by Sean Bean) is hot on his tail. The story is entertaining and does take the audience along on a wild ride in search for the clues that lead to the Knights Templar's fabled treasure. And director Jon Turteltaub managed to put it together quite nicely, and the end result is a very entertaining and fulfilling movie. There was some nice names on the cast list, which includes Nicolas Cage, Diane Kruger, Justin Bartha, Sean Bean, Jon Voight, Harvey Keitel and Christopher Plummer. The action scenes in the movie were nicely filmed and executed and it feels like the audience is right there alongside Gates as he chases after the treasure."National Treasure" is actually one of the better and brighter moments in Nicolas Cage's track history of movie performances.
