Highly Overrated But Still Good

The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;
There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.
A Fantastic tale of undying love, and revenge. This is undoubtedly Brandon Lee's best performance, and sadly also his last. It also happens to be my favorite vengeance-themed film. This is perfection all the way, from the plot to the acting to the visuals and somber atmosphere. Michael Wincott is perfectly cast as the antagonist, and Brandon Lee is simply brilliant! The scene where Top Dollar (Wincott) and his gang opens fire on Eric (Lee) on the table is incredible!
The Crow is such a beautiful movie, Brandon Lee's performance was spectacular. It's a shame Brandon is no longer with us, but he will always be a legend in my book. The Crow is a classic, very underrated. I do not enjoy the sequels to the movie, they should have stopped after this movie. Without Eric Draven there is no crow.
Spoiler-free The word "marvelous" is best used for a movie like this.The reason this movie is so notorious for it's themes will be addressed last. One of the most striking visual styles is in this movie. It was originally supposed to be black and white. While the idea was scrapped, the movie gives off a monotone feeling of sleep and solitary, the movie is possessed by a look of darkness and gloom.The writing is sharp, funny, yet it makes you think. The violence in the script is handled maturely and with a rock n' roll style. The CGI isn't perfect but it holds up for a movie like this. The one flaw is certain dialogue can be stale, but it doesn't really affect the whole story. Side note: Listen to the Cure's "Burn", it is equally haunting and is the official song for the movie And then there is Brandon Lee. His acting makes me feel like he really is dealing with a tortured soul. This movie became infamous following his accidental on-set shooting. The death gave the scenes a melancholy feeling and as if this were made to capture his real life. This film is a tribute and memory of a haunting performance from a genuinely great film 1994 gave us Pulp Fiction, The Shawshank Redemption, and Leon: The Professional, yet the most overlooked is this Gothic masterpiece
Eric Draven and his newlywed wife Shelly are brutally murdered in their apartment. Eric was the first to die, being stabbed, shot and thrown out the window. Shelly was repeatedly raped and beaten by the four culprits, later dying in excruciating pain in the hospital. This is not the end of a story, but the beginning. The Crow is one of the rare comic book films made in the early 90s that holds true to the essence of its source material.Based off of the popular comic book series by James O'Barr and directed by Alex Proyas, The Crow merges the Gothic with the mythical in a modern backdrop. Even though the movie is set in Detroit, it is extremely stylized with black stone architecture under never ending rainfall. The city seems like it is warped back to the middle ages, where crime has become the institution, and evil is commonplace. Eric Draven comes back not only as a grim reaper, but to give some small measure of hope to the few good people left. There is a haunting pull of real darkness in this film. This heavy feeling looms because of Brandon Lee's accidental death during filming. There are scenes where body doubles were used to finish shooting, and as the plot progresses to the middle of the film, Draven's face is seen less and less, as if he is more of an apparition than flesh and blood. There is something ominous about seeing shadows and silhouettes in place of a man that already ceased to exist. The Crow is not a horror film, but the menacing acts and the tragic story behind the camera create the atmosphere of one.
