A Disappointing Continuation

A different way of telling a story

It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.

This is not the worst but also not the best. It is a middling horror movie. I was disappointed with the lack of gory killing but the implied violence is pretty cool. The twist was interesting the first time but once remembered it becomes a bit stupid. The idea of having sex to stay alive is a good one and the teen orgy was genius but still handled in a generic manner. Worth a watch for horror fans.

In the small town of Cherry Falls, horny teens are being murdered by a mysterious killer. Jody Marken (Brittany Murphy) makes out with her boyfriend Kenny but he dumps her when she wouldn't put out. It doesn't help that she's the daughter of the strict local sheriff (Michael Biehn). Leonard Marliston (Jay Mohr) is the English teacher. Clues indicate that the killer is targeting virgins. The kids organize a sex party.It's a cheesy premise with a cheesy title to match. Some may see this as calling out a standard horror trope. At its core, there is a passable horror. It is never good enough to be scary nor smart enough to be biting. It's not funny or at least not intentionally funny. The best friend is a bit of a dud. As a logical construct, there is a shocking lack of parental guidance out at the party considering a serial killer is on the loose. On the plus side, Brittany Murphy is a solid scream queen. The bar is raised higher by the obvious pun in the premise and title. The movie fails to clear that higher bar.

The slasher genre never got a tune up quite like it did with Cherry Falls, a tongue in cheek satire that while hilariously high concept and silly, can actually be pretty frightening, especially during it's intense climax. Here's the premise: Cherry Falls is a small town in Virginia that has fallen prey to a masked serial killer. The twist? Said killer is only targeting virgins, which causes quite the uproar. As the high school kids all scramble to get laid before they get laid six feet under, the prudish townsfolk become unhinged and disgusted by the whole affair, and a decades old secret involving some of the town's best and brightest comes to light, a scandal to rival tr sleazy parade of flesh this murderer has set into motion. Young Jody Markum (Brittany Murphy) has yet to have her cherry popped, and fears for life in between bouts of teenage angst. Her father (Michael Biehn), who also happens to be the town sheriff, wrestles with demons in his past, as well as his own. A schoolteacher (Jay Mohr) scours the town archives for clues before it's too late. And every horny adolescent tries to desperately get their freak on, providing some of the funniest moments you'll see in a fright flick. Gymnasium orgies, rampant fornication and all kinds of naughty antics ensue. Nothing beats the faculty meeting where parents violently argue as to who has the sluttiest offspring. Full of in jokes, innuendo and sly sexy humour, this is one of the great overlooked horror comedies out there.

This film is about a town plagued by a serial killer who kills teenage virgins.I know it's a horror film, but I can't stop myself from being amused by the ridiculous plot that the serial killer killing virgins. How is the killer supposed to know who is a virgin and who is not? Anyway, this killing spree gives the high school student the perfect excuse to have sex with each other, which I also find darkly humorous. There is an attempt to put some emotional drama involving the main family, but it does not quite work. The film does not provide much tension or scare, but it does keep my interest because I want to know how it will end. I think "Cherry Falls" is the kind of horror film that people enjoy because it is actually more funny than scary.
