I love this movie so much
Fresh and Exciting
I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.
While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
Action packed and well acted. When does the sequel come out???
Why, this must be Johnathan Liebersman's 2-hour long graduation project for the Micheal Bay School of Bland Action Movies! Gaze in awe how he uses the camera to make every single action scene in this movie completely unfocused and entirely drained of any impact on the viewer. Let's try not to forget the characters that done their damnedest to be forgotten as soon as you finish watching either. What else? Oh yeah, those aliens. They are probably the blandest the human imagination could've thought up.With this movie, he's sure to pass with flying colors. Let's hope he never makes another movie again, or at least makes a better one.Final Score: 31/100 (Plastic Medal)
There are a lot of disparaging comments to read about this. I still think the opening beach landing sequence was one stupendous humdinger of a science fiction film achievement. And the rest of it is a competent hollywood war movie of the 'this just keeps gettin' better and better' combat-patrol formula. At this point, I'm starting to feel sorry for those who didn't read sci-fi when it was still young, when things written couldn't be made any form of tangible, to be able to appreciate seeing things that previously could only be seen in your head.
A rag tag bunch of marines from different teams join together to battle the aliens who have invaded California to steal the water from our oceans. The whole alien invasion genre has gotten old waaay before this movie reared its head. From Independence Day and its sequel, to Cloverfield, to Pacific Rim, to Battleship and a million others, theyre all pretty much the same. Introduce characters, insert a few dysfunctional ones, eveeuthings fine until aliens invade *insert city here* . Battles and destruction ensue, insert a few heroic deaths, the sense of defeat for the human race, insert a inspirational speech, then one final stand for mankind that ends with the aliens defeated. Ehhh. It all gets to be quite boring
