One of my all time favorites.
Awesome Movie
Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.
All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
I believe one of the greatest lines: My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.
Powerful movie, Ridley Scott's visions is magnificent. All elements fused together like a well oiled machine. Character development, excellent by all the actors. Emotions fully expressed and both loved and hated, yet loved them for the clarity communicated across the screen. A great movie moves the audience into a love/ hate relationship with sympathy, empathy, apathy and anger. The whole spectrum of emotions including love in all its forms. Editing, musical scores, simply filled with multiple levels of passion. Ridley excelled in his vision, where we the audience, were completely engrossed in the film, from start to finish. I've watched this over and over. When I listen to the haunting musical score of the film. I'm quickly transported to the scene where Russell walks through the field. Spectacular! I could give this film way more than 10!
Excellent direction, memorable performances, intense action set pieces and a soundtrack that brings out the monster in you- put all of these in the same bag and BOOM, you have Gladiator! An instant classic! Ridley Scott takes us back in time, giving us an aesthetic look and feel of the glorious Roman empire. The visuals are breathtaking, showing ancient Rome in all its glory. The Colosseum looks pretty dope and so do all the places in the city.Russel Crowe's performance is something extremely special. Playing the role of the noble Roman General Maximus, he portrays a variety of emotions pertaining to the honorable Roman guard. He almost single handedly carries this epic to great heights. A very well deserved Oscar for the guy. Joaquin Phoenix steals every damn scene he's in. Playing the egoistic Commodus who has a bizarre view of the world, he does justice to the character and the movie as a whole. The supporting cast is great as well. All in all, I did not find any weak link in the performances whatsoever.A pretty straightforward story, but I ain't complaining. The simple plot actually works well for the film. Helps keep the focus on the characters, thus making the film a character-driven one. Minimal number of inconsistencies.Gladiator is thus one of Ridley Scott's best films, period. Probably one of the best in the genre as well. WAS I NOT ENTERTAINED!? HELL YEAH, I WAS ENTERTAINED!
Russell did an amazing job playing as someone who cares for his family and Ridley did an magnificent job doing all the recreation and it shows that no one can ever hold the truth like Joaquin did in the movie that he killed his father instead of maximus
