Good story, Not enough for a whole film
It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.
This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
For this review, I am just going to enjoy myself pointing out all the "stupids" in the movie, however I still give it a 6 because it was intriguing enough to keep me watching till the end, and the acting was pretty good.1. How does murdering Roger solve the problem for Clas? Roger already tainted Clas's reputation with the hiring company, meaning he probably won't get the job anyways. In fact, Roger should have been the one trying to murder Clas for banging his wife.2. For the sake of argument, let's say Roger has to die. Why the hell would you do it yourself?? The first thing police will look for is motive... One would think someone in Clas's position would have an elite squad of Navy Seal Ninjas ready to do the job for him.3. How come when Roger murders his friend Ove, it wasn't detected on the camera? He was standing in roughly the same spot that Clas was standing in during the ending sequence. I don't know if it was the surveillance guards or the director, but someone had to be on drugs.4. At one point Clas tries to attack Roger, with a stone. Roger has a gun. Enough said.5. IF submerging yourself in poo blocks the tracking signal, wouldn't coming out of the poo instantly reactivate the signal? Honestly I don't think that's how tracking signals work anyways. But personally, I think the best thing ever would have been if he just got murdered in the poo, and no one ever found his body again :) 6. Why kill the farmer unless you have to? That's just more potential consequences down the road. If little Sally was selling Girl Guide Cookies, would she have to be eliminated as well? 7. Why did Clas stop following his dog, which allowed for that ridiculous Mortal Kombat Fatality on the tractor? I guess Clas could have been taking a dump in the outhouse... so I can forgive this one.8. Okay, fine, I will accept Roger surviving the car falling off the cliff scene, only because he was cushioned between two fat guys, but then how does Clas make it down the cliff so quickly to come check on him? Also, if you walked all that way, why not make sure he's dead with a bullet to the brain? And why even bother checking on him? Who the hell is supposed to survive something like that...9. How does Rogers wife know anything about guns, including the exact kind of bullets to buy for the gun, where Clas would keep the gun, or how to load the gun? The only gun she looks like she knows how to handle is under the bed sheets.10. The ending. My suggestion: Watch this movie, laugh, and then don't think about it again.
Roger Brown is a brash corporate headhunter in Norway. He spends more money than he has on his statuette wife Diana with her model looks who runs an art gallery. He's trying to compensate for his short statue but the one thing she really wants is a child. He cheats on her with Lotte and is also an art thief to support his extravagant spending. He and his unstable partner-in-crime Ove Kjikerud replace the originals with forgeries to buy time. Diana introduces Roger to a wealthy former-businessman Clas Greve (Nikolaj Coaster-Waldau).I love this character with his inferiority complex. He's a Napolean figure and I like his marital relationship. He's a fresh take on the art thief. Nikolaj Coaster-Waldau is a great threatening presence. The chase thriller is great. However there are a couple of unreal twists at the end. The ending should be more interesting.
Most of the people would be septic when they hear it's a Norwegian movie but Hodejegerne (or Headhunters) will prove them wrong. It's an excellent crime thriller with a lot of twists that keep you in suspense and entertained until the last second. I wish they would make more movies of this quality. Much better then most of the American high budget movies in this genre. Aksel Hennie plays Roger Brown, the headhunter and art thief, and does it brilliantly. Nikolaj Coaster-Waldau as Clas Greve might be better known as Jamie Lannister in Game of Thrones but here he proves he can act in whatever movie. In fact all actors did a great job. The movie might start slow but after a while you get sucked into the story and can't wait to see what's coming. I really enjoyed this one.
The first thing you'll notice about this film is Jamie from Game of Thrones is in it. But all jokes aside, this film is tense, unpredictable and at times, somewhat funny. It's a clever foreign thriller, with the right mixture of action and mystery to position you on the edge of your seat throughout. At some points in the film you do feel as if you are being played the fool, but overall this film puts out.A terrific film with great acting and a magical screenplay. There is something about this film that just has so much charm about it and charisma, that you instantly full in love with it. An awesome film.
