This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.

While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.

By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.

I watched this last night hoping for a strong suspense/thriller. Yes, the suspense is kind of there, but the plot line has so many glaring holes it becomes annoying and frustrating. The characterizations are OK, Gerard Butler and Maria Bello do a pretty good job but Pierce Brosnan shows he is out of his depth and paints a one dimensional and one expression (less) character...seems he is perhaps only good at action films where not much talent is needed. Pity.What can I say about the plot? Well, let's just say (without spoiling it) that there are so many opportunities for the couple who have been held ransom to do something about it. Several times they (in particular G Butller's character) could have notified police, his work colleagues or his mistress for help, but no, instead he listens to the woeful, nonsensical rants of his wife to do nothing except what the antagonist (Brosnan) tells them to do. Very annoying and simply with no logic this is the greatest downfall of the plot. Suspense? Yes, if you disregard the husband's and wife's illogicality !! The twist at the end is perhaps one of the best developed and unforeseen I have encountered. Totally unprepared for it. But that's the best I can say about this film. Good atmospheric cinematography and music score.Almost, but not quite "Shattered" !

This was a entertaining film keeps you in your toes the whole time. A sharp thriller with some good ideas and a great turn at the end! Reminded me of Ransom in parts but not as polished but still good! Good chemistry between the actors but what do you expect from the trio! I liked the way it was filmed and the whole vibe.For sure see this one when you have chance.A neat thriller that keeps you in the whole time.I did not hear much on this film but glad I caught it.I think it was marketed badly because I never heard of it till on Amazon! Anyone who likes a taught thriller will like this.

This movie contains NO gore, NO physical violence, almost no bad words. With a few seconds cut, this movie could be OK even for 40s-50s Hollywood standards. PG13 rating reads "some material may be inappropriate for children under 13". I agree, but R reads "under 17 requires accompanying parent or adult guardian". "...for some language and violence." Kids watch much more violence in their schools than in this movie!Anyway, the movie is fine. The story is a universal one. Did you know that India made a remake in 2010? Cocktail IMDb reference tt1821373. And someone can write a plot of a similar story set in XVIII century Vienna, or in ancient Persia and so onActing and cinematography are pretty good. IMHO it's worth to see this movie. My wife asked to me what would have I done in male victim shoes. According to the way I am, when he is not believed in the police station I would have called 911 or I'd go to another officer: I can not stand not to be believed, especially when I tell the truth :)

The film is quite well-made; it's the story that lowers the rating for me. I am usually quite surprised by stories of this type; but the twist became rather obvious early on in the film. Alright, there was still a touch of mystery, as I did not know why this was happening, but I certainly got a clear impression of what was going on.I'm also fed-up of the unrealistic approach many films like this take; sure it can be a fun ride, but I'm afraid this one failed to be fun enough to make up for the mediocre plot-line of "revenge of the spouses".On the positive side, I did find myself rooting for the small man bringing down the arrogant, unfeeling corporate climber; even if the "small man" was his spurned wife.
