Load of rubbish!!
When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.
This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
Worth seeing just to witness how winsome it is.
Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kathryn Harrold, Sam Wanamaker, Paul Shenar, Robert Davi and Darren McGavin star in this 1986 action film. Schwarzenegger (The Terminator, Commando) plays ex-FBI agent turned small-town sheriff, Kaminsky who helps his colleague, Harry (McGavin) get revenge for his son's murder. The late, Wanamaker (Superman IV, Baby Boom) plays Chicago mobster, Patrovita who is the man behind the murder. Kaminsky infiltrates him and his gang by masquerading as a wealthy businessman. Harrold plays Monique, a woman who Kaminsky befriends, The late, Shenar (Scarface) plays Patrovita's associate, Rocca, and Davi (The Goonies, Die Hard) plays Patrovita's right-hand thug, Max. This isn't a bad 80's action flick and Schwarzenegger is great as usual. I recommend this.
Between the marvellous, macho, military mayhem that was Commando and the sheer brilliance of sci-fi/action classic Predator, Arnold Schwarzenegger appeared in this shoddy shoot-em-up, most notable for being the one where the star slicks back his hair (seriously, that's the only thing I could remember about this film from my previous viewing). The uninspired plot for this largely forgettable cheese-fest sees Arnie as disgraced FBI agent turned small-town sheriff Mark Kaminsky, who slaps on the pomade to go deep undercover in the Chicago mafia after being offered the possibility of reinstatement if he helps to kill the mobsters responsible for the death of his ex-boss's son. The slicked back hair fools everyone but mob heavy Max Keller (Robert Davi), who suspects that the new muscle isn't on the level. There's no denying that this is far from Arnie's best film—the script is diabolical, the action is poorly staged, and the majority of the movie seems to be simply treading water until the bullet-riddled finale—but for those after a few unintentional laughs to go with their gratuitous violence, look no further This film's so-bad-they're-good highlights include Kaminsky's hilarious domestic spat with his inebriated, cake-hurling wife (Don't drink and bake!), Arnold struggling to deliver the priceless line 'He molested, murdered and mutilated her' (the film is worth watching for this moment alone), the ridiculous attack on the bad guys' quarry hangout which sees our hero effortlessly picking off numerous villains while fishtailing his car at high speed, Kaminsky's reckless suggestion to start a bombing campaign on the city's police precincts (what's a few maimed cops in the pursuit of vengeance?), and the inevitable scene in which Kaminsky 'tools up', preparing a vast collection of weaponry for the final battle, pulling on his leather jacket and checking himself out in the mirror before he leaves to kick ass.Unmitigated tripe this may be, but it sure is funny at times.
Mark Kaminsky is forced to leave the FBI after controversy from treating a suspect too harshly. Kaminsky takes a job as a small time sheriff. This makes him and his wife very unhappy to the point of turmoil. Mark has a chance at glory when he agrees to infiltrate the kingpin of the Chicago Mafia, Luigi Patrovita (Sam Wanamaker) in order to avenge his friend Harry when Harry's son is murdered. This has plenty of shootouts, explosions, and all the things you love from Arnold Schwarzenegger. It's just too bad this movie is so routine and rather mundane at times as well. This had a chance to be quite a riveting story, and it is at certain times, just not nearly enough for my liking. I realize Arnold Schwarzenegger movies aren't meant to be Oscar worthy. Arnold is one of my heroes. He's one of the most charismatic action stars to ever grace our screens. I own almost all of his movies, including this one. I just feel it was a missed opportunity. There are some plot holes as well. How did it take so long for the federal prosecutor to realize Arnold is undercover? You would think that he would figure it out far sooner. Arnold's performance is a bit of a character study. There was some decent character development with him. I thought he gave one of the best acting performances of his career. It's a bit of a meaty role for him. I thought he did very well with it. His character is damaged goods. I would have liked to see more desperation coming from him, but he has that unprecedented charisma to even things out. Not many can entertain like he can. Wait until you see the finale that starts at a construction site. Not only is it full of gunfire and mayhem, but Arnold kicks ass with the song "I Can't Get No Satisfaction" Kathryn Harold is solid, if a little underdeveloped. We don't know much about her, other than she has a heart. Her relationship with Arnold wasn't all that convincing. Sam Wanamaker is terrifically smarmy as the villain. Darren McGavin always provides good presence. Davi, Lauter & Shenar add to an overall, great cast. The finale has some decent twists and turns in it as well. The ending is probably the best thing about this movie. I didn't get teary eyed. I was definitely moved by it though. I won't reveal what happens but it will get your emotions running. At least it did with meFinal Thoughts: This is a bit of a misfire for Arnold. It does have some merit. It's far from terrible but it's completely forgettable. I just try to find the positive in things, as well as the negatives. See it for some brainless action, the performances, or if you're a huge fan of Arnold like I am5.4/10
After some bang-up opening action, we learn muscular lawman Arnold Schwarzenegger (as Mark Kaminsky) got a "Raw Deal" after treating criminals harshly. Consequently, he was demoted to small-town sheriff. His inebriated wife makes cake for dinner and throws it at Mr. Schwarzenegger. Good thing she misses. "Don't drink and bake," advises Schwarzenegger. Most significant in the pre-credits is a shoot-out which includes the slaying of an FBI chief's son. Peeved papa Darren McGavin (as Harry Shannon) vows revenge...The main target was a witness due to testify against Chicago mob boss Sam Wanamaker (as Luigi Patrovita). Schwarzenegger is employed by Mr. McGavin to get the goods on Mr. Wanamaker. Going undercover as Joseph "Joey" Brenner, Schwarzenegger infiltrates the gang. He shares champagne and saliva with sexy Kathryn Harold (as Monique). The box office star is bulked up and violent; he knows how to talk on the telephone while posing for the camera, never letting the receiver block his chiseled chin.**** Raw Deal (6/6/86) John Irvin ~ Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kathryn Harold, Sam Wanamaker, Darren McGavin
