That was an excellent one.
A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.
Story: It's very simple but honestly that is fine.
Blistering performances.
It seems that 'critics' have followed the formula and pissed all over a great and fun horror movie simply because of the genre. If you have actually seen the film you may say that 'Child Play 2' surpasses the cult classic original in 3 ways. first, it skips the murder mystery (not saying that the mystery is bad in the original its just that the cover shows Chucky with a knife and all the sequels tell you he is real) and gets strait to the horror. Second, it has a nice foster sibling sub plot that is not just interesting, but something you nearly never see in films, especially horrors, And thirdly, the creative one liners and weapons propel Chucky into the slasher big leagues and are blue prints for the One line spouting Chucky we all know and love today. With interesting characters, Quotable quips, A good child actor, Brad Dourif's Haunting voice, and a satisfying bloody end to Chucky. 'Child's Play 2' is truly a cult classic.
Chucky (Brad Dourif) returns for a new horror in the sequel to the frightening classic original. Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent) has been put in foster care as the original story proved too crazy for the authorities. The toy company tries to cover up a PR nightmare by finding out what happened, rebuilding the Chucky doll in the process from the remaining eye. The evil killer takes his first victim by electrocuting a dollmaker. Andy is fostered by Joanne (Jenny Agutter) and Phil Simpson (Gerrit Graham). He still has terrible trauma and the sight of a Good Guy doll terrifies him. Chucky murders the toy company executive Mattson (Greg Germann) and discovers where Andy lives.Chucky destroys another Good Guy doll and replaces it with himself but he causes trouble for the two foster kids. Andy bonds with Kyle (Christine Elise), a young woman about to be out of the Simpson's foster care in a year, over their shared punishment. Chucky ties up Andy at night and attempts to take his soul but Kyle sneaks back in through his window interrupting the ritual. Phil is angry about the troublesome behavior and throws the doll in the basement. The evil killer sneaks onto the school bus the next day and messes with Andy's assignment. Andy's teacher Miss Kettlewell (Beth Grant) punishes Andy and locks him in the classroom. She throws the Chucky doll in the closet before she leaves. Andy escapes out the window before Chucky can break out. Check out more of this review and others at swilliky.com
This movie was great because it knew exactly what it wanted to be,a fun slasher film.First, the good, the characters, just like in the first one they're well written, acted, and feel real. The kills, they were suspenseful and very creative. The music was great, and I loved the climax,it was very fun,fit the tone perfectly.Last pro,Chucky,he was hilarious, creepy, and you could feel all of his anger. Now the cons,I feel like the movie, well super fun, should've been slower, and it feels like a soap opera in some scenes in the beginning. My last con is that some plot holes were a bit too noticeable, and very stupid, just like in the first one.Child's Play 2 is a wildly entertaining movie with some pacing issues.
Sequels tend to fall into one of two broad categories. The first is the 'improvement' sequel that strives to outdo its predecessor – films like TERMINATOR 2, ALIENS and THE DARK KNIGHT fall into this category, one of my favourites. The second is the 'rip-off' sequel, the sole reason for which is to make money. These films typically rehash the plot from the first movie without adding anything new to the blend and look like nothing more than bland imitators. Sadly, CHILD'S PLAY 2 is the latter type of sequel, a weak imitation of the first movie lacking the same originality, narrative thrust and enjoyment.Things kick off at a toy factory where some manufacturers inexplicably revive Chucky, who was burned to a cinder at the end of the last flick. Soon enough he's back up and running, stalking Andy Barclay. What follows is in essence a series of cheesy deaths: people are stabbed, fall to their deaths, get electrocuted and in one instance are killed by a ruler. Unfortunately such moments feel tired and drawn out and this is a film that feels like it's in search of a plot. The only thing that holds it together is Brad Dourif, having a ball once more as the voice of Chucky. Alex Vincent also returns from the first but he seems more morose and restrained there; either he was bored with the role or told to act' subdued'.With Alex's mother written out of the movie, we're introduced to a bland foster couple – there's nothing much to get out of the sheer boredom of these guys, which is a shame because two cult favourites play them; Gerrit Graham and Jenny Agutter, both wasted with nothing of what made them so memorable in the first place. The cheesy, extended finale is more yawn-inducing than inspiring this time around, as we've already seen all the Chucky-isn't-dead-is-he scares. Special effects are adequate but the low budget is apparent in many scenes, especially the non-starter of a car crash which is laughably bad. In all this is a worthless remake in a series filled with pretty uninteresting, undeserving films; apparently the rushed-out sequel is even worse. Stay tuned...
