The biggest problem with this movie is it’s a little better than you think it might be, which somehow makes it worse. As in, it takes itself a bit too seriously, which makes most of the movie feel kind of dull.

This movie begins with 2 high school students named "Rickie" (Shiloh Fernandez) and "J.T." (Noah Segan) who decide to skip class and eventually end up at an abandoned mental facility in the middle of nowhere. As they tour the place they come upon a door that is rusted shut and after much exertion they finally manage to open it. What they find inside the room is a naked female strapped to a table who appears to be dead--but is very much alive. And J.T. knows exactly what he wants to do with her. Now, rather than reveal any more about this movie I will just say that this film is definitely not for general audiences as it has several graphic scenes involving nudity and rape—of a zombie no less. And it's this behavior of J.T. and his buddy "Wheeler" (Eric Podnar) that is probably the most unsettling thing about this film. Along with that, while I didn't particularly care for these specific scenes, the rest of the movie seemed rather slow and uneventful as well—at least up until the final 30 minutes or so. In summation, I doubt anybody--other than serious zombie enthusiasts--will consider this movie to be better than average and I have therefore rated it accordingly.

With a seemingly simple plot, 'Deadgirl' tells the tale of Rickie and JT, who find a bound girl in an abandoned mental institute who can't be killed. They keep her a secret for the various ulterior motives that the film revolves around. 'Deadgirl' was dark, twisted and disturbing. It explored the hidden cruelty and darkness of human nature. Though it appears to be another teenage torture porn flick, in reality, it's so much more than that. Shiloh Fernandez and Gadi Harel give strong performances and are extremely interesting characters, making the plot revolve around them just. Making a bound girl that frightening takes a fair bit of effort, that this film succeeds at achieving. If you're a fan of the horror genre, you will find this flick extremely enticing and you're sure to enjoy this nail biter. Provided of course, you watch it with no prior expectations.

I'm a huge fan of both the zombie sub-genre, and ambitious indie films. I came across "Deadgirl" on a list of most underrated indie horror films. I settled in thinking that the premise had a lot of promise to actually generate some chills and nail biter moments and boy oh boy was I wrong. Deadgirl is a juvenile,unambitious, convoluted film that doesn't know what it wants to convey and has plot/event holes in it that you could drive a semi-truck through sideways.I allowed myself to follow the cliché main characters' angst-ridden journey to the abandoned mental asylum, all the way to the unsealing of the ominous door that contained the title character, The Dead Girl. What followed was a confused, lazy approach to story telling that left me asking more questions that it even attempted to answer. The cheesiness was overshadowed only by the depth of the misogynist,homo-erotic exhibitionist overtones.J.T and Wheeler seem not only OK with,but anxious to watch each other have sex with "Joann", and eager to bring Ricky into the fold(s)necrophilia, as a taboo subject matter, is nothing new to me as I saw Jorg Buttgereit's "Nekromantik" almost 2 decades ago, to much better effect. This story is so full of undefined,lazily written elements it became frustrating to watch. The school parking lot beat down and subsequent kidnapping of Ricky and Wheeler was both unbelievable and completely stupid. Follow that up by antagonist/jock/bad-boy Johnny's being goaded into oral sex with the carnivorous Joann and you have a clear picture of the childish,ridiculous devices used to tell this potentially interesting story. I won't even begin to question seemingly random,misused elements like: the ominous black dog that I had assumed had some supernatural link to Joann(boy was I wrong; why Wheeler's whining,screeching admission of having their own private sex-slave motivated Johnny to even bother to kidnap Wheeler and Ricky and investigate the asylum. There are so many completely unreal and stupid attempts at moving the story along, that this already lengthy review would be twice as long as it already is.I will concede that Joann's makeup special effects are masterfully done and chilling (see: Ricky's daydream.) If you are about 14 years old, completely bored, and have no sense of the art of story narrative, please watch this movie. Anyone else that watches this ridiculous B.S is pretty much wasting an hour and change that will leave you feeling dumber for the experience.

This movie was a waste of time. It has next to no story. It starts out well with good intentions but around half an hour into the movie it just turns into a 'rape-fest' nothing but a movie about teenagers having sex with a dead girl which is the most disturbing movie I have ever seen (and I've seen a few disturbing movies)I don't see how anyone could enjoy such a movie. "Deadgirl" has no story line, no contrast and is definitely not interesting. The whole time I was watching both myself and the person i was watching it with wanted it to finish.1 out of 10. I recommend you do not watch it.
