Too much of everything
Excellent, Without a doubt!!
I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.
It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
Note: I watched this on Prime on a 1080p-capable TV. Good image quality and mediocre movie."500 MPH Storm" is one of several environmental disaster films produced by The Asylum for Sy Fy Channel. In this one, scientists in a bunker somewhere manipulate the weather with the use of mysterious machine. A meteorologist travels with his family from venue to venue to outrun the storm that seems to be uniquely chasing them and no one else. There's a subplot about how the bunker scientists can fire a laser at just the right place to "stop" the storm as if it were a monster. Yawn. There isn't much to see here sadly. The film takes itself way too seriously and the actors are generally good enough not to induce giggles. There is a funny sequence where the main guy's wife tells his son to "game" while they are driving. It isn't played for laughs, which makes it even funnier. At least the main actors are pleasant to look at and the actress seems to run around without a bra under her shirt. After about an hour you're ready for the film to end because nothing really happens. It's a series of 1) run from the storm, 2) scientific talk, 3) repeat. There are a few scenes of people stealing cars which are welcome because the films follows its pattern so closely. Like many films from The Asylum, this one suffers from the plot-driven antagonist who shows up whenever the movie has become boring and magically disappears for a few minutes. It's especially jarring here because you see scenes of stormy weather to be followed by bright sunshine. Would it have been too hard to film some time in the clouds? It would also have been nice to see more than just a few other people on the roads. Too boring to recommend.
Daniel Lusko brilliantly directed this exciting cautionary tale from an incisive screenplay penned by K. Lee and Hank Woon. When scientists experimenting with energy set of a series of huge hurricanes, the storms merge and become an apocalyptic Hypercane that threatens to wipe out all life in North America. Casper Van Dien gives a superb performance, with Michael Beach and Sarah Liveing quite moving in supporting roles. While the special effects are breath taking and the haunting imagery of vast vistas of devastation overwhelming, in the end it's the personal stories of the individuals fighting for existence and the future of humanity which make this more than a disaster movie. Actually, this is an important cinematic statement regarding the danger of arrogant science and America's energy crisis. With insightful writing, sensitive direction, and a fine cast, there is no denying the truth brought home through 500 MPH Storm. A chilling glimpse of a future we must all see never arrives.
This film came as a very pleasant surprise. Thoroughly plausible storyline and enthusiastic actors and special effects guys who were doing the best they can with windows movie maker. It begins with a lovely day of people floating around in their hot air balloons but then peril soon becomes disaster!! Some science bods and some military guys were making an attempt at some super laser beam renewable energy which was badly designed and caused storms which caused more laser which caused more storms... There was a kid in the film and he was supposed to be about 16 but clearly acted by someone about 25. This kid said "they just exploded!" talking about people caught up in this tornado. I had to take the film back and it was just some hot air balloons caught up in a tornado, and no sign of anyone exploding at all. Some people were trying to make some renewable energy thing but instead it made storms and tornadoes and hurricanes and stuff and they kept growing and somehow this doofus guy managed to save the world somehow by doing something.10/10
I hope you don't have the misfortune of ever seeing this awful film! if you have I hope the bleeding in your eyes stops soon. as for me I have irreparable brain damage and will now spend the rest of my life in a mental institution. There are made up words "Hypercane" spell check does not like that one. the annoying sound track is the worst pile of crap i have ever had to listen to. and whats with the slow motion every time there is a close up or when they run thru water is that necessary. apparently the stability of the "Core " depends on the weather. well its raining somewhere in the world guess the core is going critical. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this one
