just watch it!
This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
The film may be flawed, but its message is not.

For the genre it's lively and ambitious and does a little more than simply string fight scenes together. It has some similarity to Commando in the way the action flows - villains are disposed of with great efficiency because there are so many to get through. The scenes in which Seagal and Le Brock strike up a friendship are appealing initially but when it transforms to love interest it feels false - rushed and convenient to the plot progression and no more. The film is very entertaining and wastes no time in satisfying the audience's bloodlust but uppermost in its appeal is the charisma of Seagal and his aikido movements to disarm his foes.
This was Seagal's second movie after his breakthrough debut Nico : Above the law". Unfortunately , compared to the previous one this has got a rather thin story and lacks action. The beginning is quite good . We have some tension and some action there. It's one of those few movies when Seagal gets hurt , so the audience actually has a chance to care for him.The middle of the movie fails . I can suspend my disbelief that he was able to stay hidden for such long time , just for the sake of fun. But the fun never comes . The movie lacks heart . It this was a "Rocky" movie at least the training montage would be full of energy and inspirational. The love story is rather unbelievable , despite the fact that Kelly LeBrock ("Weird science") was Seagal's wife at that time . They were some kind of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie for one moment in time for the rest of the world. Also , it's irritating for audience that we have to sit and wait for Seagal to solve a rather obvious mystery. The movie tries to be emotional with the family and brotherhood theme that appears later in the movie , but as I said before it just doesn't work. It's kinda strange , because Bruce Malmuth has proved before that he can create exciting movie – "Nighthawks". Maybe it's not really his fault , but the screenplay ? Either way there is some action at the end of the movie , but it's hardly worth the wait."Hard to kill" is a rather weak and forgettable revenge movie . The good thing about it is the fact that Quentin Tarantino probably was inspired by this movie to make his "Kill Bill" movies. I give it 3/10.
Good, straightforward actioner with Seagal in his second feature film vehicle (after debuting in "Above the Law"). He plays Mason Storm, an undercover detective who digs up some dirt on a mobster and a crooked politician, and receives multiple bullets to the chest as a result (turns out some of his fellow cops are crooked, too). His wife is murdered, and his son disappears. Meanwhile, he spends the next seven years in a coma, and when he awakens, he's ready to get his revenge. Efficient direction by Bruce Malmuth in this enjoyable diversion that gets right to the point, and delivers enough violence to keep us happy. It also gives us a smoking hot love interest in the form of luscious Kelly Le Brock (Seagal's wife at the time), as the nurse who takes an interest in him and helps him get back to prime ass kicking condition. The supporting cast is all quite capable, from the always fantastic William Sadler as the weaselly, cowardly senator (who should have known better than to give himself an identifiable catch phrase), Frederick Coffin as Storm's loyal old buddy O'Malley, Charles Boswell, Branscombe Richmond, Andrew Bloch, and Dean Norris as various corrupt detectives / thugs, and lovely Bonnie Burroughs as Storm's ill-fated wife. There are some amusing touches to this screenplay, as it initially takes place in 1983, during the night of the Academy Awards, and there's also Storm's reaction to the changes that have taken place, such as President George Bush, Sr.; his reaction to seeing Geraldo Rivera on TV is particularly funny. We also get to see Seagal with his hair down for once, and sporting a very nice moustache and beard (cultivated by the nurse during his coma). Then there's the opportunity to see Seagal play a character who's very vulnerable during one section of the movie, and who's obliged to orchestrate an escape using a handy mop. The pace never flags, and it's fun as always to see Seagal doing his thing, at least during these early years of his career where he really gave more of an effort. And the villains are wretched enough scum that we just can't wait to see them get what they deserve. A solid film of its type, "Hard to Kill" delivers the goods for fans of this genre.
Oh yes, of course this movie is ridicules and in a way also a bad one. But it's simply true that movies such like this one are simply fun to watch. The movie simply serves its purpose, you could say. It's just being a dumb action flick, in the vein of the '80's genre movies, that uses a simple and straightforward concept and features plenty of action in it.The fact that this movie so often picks a simple and straightforward approach also ensures that it's being filled with some incredibly dumb moments. But it really is not annoyingly dumb but more dumb and simplistic in a fun and innocent kind of way. This is certainly a movie you could sit down for and simply have a good time with, without having to worry too much about the story or all of the different character's motivations. It's a revenge flick. as plain and simple as that. Not a spectacular and original one in any way but then again, it also most certainly is not as bad as some other generic and predictable genre movies out there. At least this movie still has plenty to offer, entertainment-wise.It has some pretty hard action in at times, which is always neat to see for an action genre lover. It's not like there's an awful lot of blood in this but a lot of gruesome stuff gets implied, which does work out effective for this particular movie. It's not something I normally like in an action movie. I mean, don't just imply! You should either show and do stuff or you shouldn't do it at all. But yes, it still does work out well for this movie, since it all got done in a convincing way, with the occasional gruesome sound-effect of a limb that gets broken. All of course done by non other than Steven Seagal himself!Luckily this is not really a movie or type of role that requires Steven Seagal to do an awful lot of acting in it. He mostly relies on just his natural charisma and fighting skills for this movie and there is nothing wrong with that, as long as the movie benefits from all of this, as it does in this case. I'm most definitely not a Seagal fan but I really did like him in this particular movie and it's definitely true that without him this probably would had been one awful genre flick!Of course there is nothing too brilliant or original about this movie but it most certainly is a decent watch!6/10 http://bobafett1138.blogspot.com/
