Wonderful character development!
A film with more than the usual spoiler issues. Talking about it in any detail feels akin to handing you a gift-wrapped present and saying, "I hope you like it -- It's a thriller about a diabolical secret experiment."
Excellent and certainly provocative... If nothing else, the film is a real conversation starter.
One of the worst ways to make a cult movie is to set out to make a cult movie.
After numerous friends telling me how great this Halloween flick was, I checked on IMDb to see its rating. With a score of 6.3, I assumed that it must be pretty darn good. I was wrong. Sooooooooo wrong! As I began to endure this exercise in horrible acting, horrible directing, horrible script writing, and not great special effects, I began to wonder if it was the wrong movie. I paused the movie and asked fellows horror fiends, and found out no it was the movie that they had raved of to me. I continued to watch this until about the hour mark hoping it would get better. But noooooooo it did not! I finally turned this mess off. I'm so confused as to how anyone with horror chops could find this some masterpiece? I warn you my friends to skip this one! It's badddddddddd on every level. I've seen better acting and scripts in cat food commercials. It's that bad.
Many people don't appreciate dated or lower budget horror, but in my opinion you cannot be a true horror fan without at least a respect for the B-movie. This movie is enjoyable in only that way that 80's campy horror can be enjoyable. It doesn't take itself too seriously and you really shouldn't either. Often overshadowed by the slasher movies of the 80's, this one is a classic. Amelia Kinkade plays Angela. Watch for her creepy dance sequence. It's pretty memorable and what happens right after elevates Amelia's character, Angela from B Movie character to a horror powerhouse like Freddy and Jason. But unfortunately the 2 sequels that followed are inferior and wound up botching her character. Linnea Quigley does something very interesting with a tube of lipstick. And the gore effects are pretty cool. This movie is by no means a thought provoking kind of horror movie, where you are supposed to question the existence of humanity or anything like that. This is a horror movie with lots of drinking, sex, and drugs, and many many moments of "oh my god did she just?! Did they just do?!" Honestly as a shock value horror flick very few movies surpass this one. I'm probably a bit nostalgic for it, but only slightly I think a lot of the shock moments in this movie will get more people than most of the ones in "Saw" or "Hostel". The director had a really good feel on what would appeal to an 80's teen (and 90's teen in the near future.) Hull House is by far the best environment for a movie like this. The music is the greatest horror movie music ever! Far surpassing that of "Nightmare on Elm Street's". It throws a lot into the atmosphere of the movie.Overall rating: 7 out of 10.
After watching the horror masterpiece DEMONS (1985) and its sequel, DEMONS 2 (1986), I was recommended this film (and its sequels). I decided to give this movie a shot in the hopes of something new yet still possessing the same qualities of the previous films mentioned. To put it mildly, it was a let-down. The "film" didn't seem to know what it wanted to be. Was it a horror? I should say not. Comedy? I hope not, nothing was too amusing. The characters were very uninteresting and annoying. Within less than a minute of being introduced to them, I couldn't care less if they died immediately. In fact, that was what I was hoping. The only good thing about this movie was that it finally ended.Avoid.
Night of the Demons is a classic case of a cheesy gory 80s horror movie that may seem slightly dated but still maintains its entertainment factor. A bunch of teens decided to party at Hull House, a funeral home that happens to be the sight of several evil things throughout the years. Kick in a séance and before you know it a demon is summoned and starts possessing and turning the others into demons. Simple premise but it works. The effects are good, there is plenty of TnA and the opening theme that plays over the credits is awesome. They just don't make them like this anymore. Get your invite and attend this party. Its a fun and entertaining movie as long as you don't take it too seriously.
