Nice effects though.
A waste of 90 minutes of my life
Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.
A construction crew opens a vault/tomb that was sealed during the Great Plague of London. This unleashes a zombie outbreak. The film concentrates on the old folks home and the young adults who rob a bank to get the money to save the home. Brothers Terry (Rasmus Hardiker) and Andy (Harry Treadaway) head up the group. They are aided by their cousin Katy (Michelle Ryan), bumbling ex-con David (Jack Doolan), and Mental Mickey (Ashley Thomas). Georgia King plays a hostage the guys try to pick up after they kidnap her.The film is a comedy and not a horror production as expected. It is not knee-slapping funny, but did make me laugh at some unique scenes such as drop kicking a zombie baby, attempting to kill a zombie with a metal plate in his head, a zombie gang fight, and of course the chase scene of a foot dragging zombie pursuing a man with a walker. Zombie fans just have to love it.Parental Guide: Plenty of F-bombs, no sex or nudity.
I enjoyed certain parts of this movie but it's as ridiculous as it sounds. That's cool and all but it's not as funny as it should be. Maybe it's because I'm not British and my humor isn't quite the same. It does have it's moments though such as when the like 83 year old with a walker was running away from the zombie. If you like zombies I guess give it a shot but it's like a much worse Shaun of the Dead.
It was definitely a fun movie. The geezers were really funny, the "crew" had an interesting dynamics and each character is really well thought and distinct. No character is like another. I don't see why it got such a low score honestly. And I had declared the female hostage as my waifu. (If you watch it you'll get why) Only one character wasn't really needed nor was it funny. (I'll explain on the "cons")Pros: It's funny most of the times. Cool action scenes. Fun & Distinct characters.Cons: Slow pacing at the beginning. Quite gory, even when they don't need to. The weird chubby robber-guy who effed up his robbery hence getting caught. He added nothing and I found the interactions he had with other characters cringe-worthy.
Very modern zombie horror / comedy with a British twist is actually better than expected, and is in fact quite a bit of fun. It's often genuinely amusing, with an excellent cast playing the material for everything that it's worth. The veterans on hand are the most fun, and funniest; you wouldn't expect to see them in a movie of this kind, and "Cockneys vs Zombies" is all the better for it. Despite the plethora of digital gore - which is very much par for the course these days - there are some ingenious gags. Best of all, this movie does have a heart underneath all of the action and bloody violence.Rasmus Hardiker and Harry Treadaway play Terry and Andy, two young punks who plan a bank robbery so that they can save the retirement home where their grandfather (Alan Ford) and his associates live. But the plans of everybody in London go straight to Hell when some long forgotten tomb is unearthed, and legions of the living dead find plenty of sustenance on hand. The characters are often thoroughly engaging, even trigger happy weapons junkie Mental Mickey (Ashley Thomas). Our two leads are quite likable, and also endearing herself to the audience (or at least this viewer) is their cousin Katy (Michelle Ryan), who's very tough and adaptable. It comes as no surprise that she becomes a zombie fighter par excellence. Ford performs with gusto as the Granddad (just don't let him catch you calling him that). Honor Blackman is wonderful as his friend Peggy. This viewer wouldn't exactly call "Cockneys vs Zombies" a breath of fresh air in this overcrowded zombie sub genre, but it's so lively, well paced, and funny, that it overcomes very familiar plotting.A comic highlight: Hamish (Richard Briers), who uses a walker, attempting to out "run" pursuing zombies.Eight out of 10.
