A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.

The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.

This movie is so color saturated as to make it look like a candy wrapper. Because, this movie is candy for cougars and female teachers that lust after their underage male students. Polly is about as sexist as Harvey Weinstein when she depicts men. Either they are 'dogs' or irresistible hotties that women have no impulse control over and must jump on top of. This movie seems to be Polly's way of getting back at all the good men in her life. Polly here makes a thesis why women should dump good men in favour of louses. Generally the movie is a yawn fest. But the icing on the unbaked cake is the ridiculous, over the top, completely unnecessary, overly long sex montage where she spends way too long positioning Michelle Williams in a variety of sex positions while the camera insinuates the passage of time. Polly isn't happy until Williams has worked her way through the Kama Sutra. When I saw this at the theater the whole audience burst out laughing at that scene. Polly clearly needs to visit PornHub more often and perhaps invest in a Japanese bedside toy. This movie is for women that dream of leaving a loving home and family to screw every good looking, underage, poor narcissist or homeless person she sees. The only thing missing here is the canned laughter.

This is a great example of a director's prowess shining through. I have always respected director and writer Sarah Polley for her subtly and adherence to reality. I am sure most viewers found this slow and boring, but sometimes that is real life. Unlike most "infidelity"" films, there is no intense in-your-face passion and sudden life-altering decisions. The passion is intense, yes, but shown in a non-traditional, subtle manner that takes its time. The film's recurring theme is the "gap"; the "in-between" period, such as when she first meets her new lover, as she is taking a connecting flight. She admits to being "afraid of being afraid"; the frightening space of the unknown, like in her two romantic relationships. A phenomenal performance from Michelle Williams; this is a true character study that illustrates the internal struggle of a happily married woman that somehow find herself falling in love with another man. Is this possible? Can you love more than one person at once? Or is she really not in love with her husband? Is the novelty of this new man, the possibility of him being everything she is missing, worth risking her marriage? Seth Rogan plays an atypical role, and does it well. Sarah Silverman plays an alcoholic who has wisdom to share (You think everything can be worked out if you just make the right move? That must be thrilling... Life has a gap in it. It just does. You don't go crazy trying to fill it like some lunatic."). Little known actor Luke Kirby plays a respectable other man, letting the married woman make the decision, rather than seducing her. The saturated colors and cinematography make me want to visit Canada. Well done, Sarah Polley.

Where do I begin... I don't want to waste my time on this movie so I'll try and keep things short: Don't see this movie. The main cast is more than capable of pulling off a good performance so I'm not sure why they were so horrible in this. Seth Rogan's performance was OK I guess but literally everyone in this movie was so awkward and flat it was actually pretty astounding. Almost everything in this movie was cliché to the point where you know exactly what's about to happen even when at a few points you're not entirely sure because of how awkward the characters are being to the point where you can't help but feel "What the f*ck is going on right now?". I've wasted enough time on this movie, I'm not going to waste any more time fixing that run on sentence. It's corny as all h*ll, there are more than a handful of cringy moments. There's one nude scene where you can tell the director just put it there to check off some feminist checklist (and I have absolutely NOTHING wrong with feminism, I do however have something wrong scenes so forced I can't help but feel the need to cement up my *sshole). I would only watch this movie if you have some sort of fetish to not finish a movie. I have NO idea how this movie got so many good reviews. Perhapse they're from fans of the director? I've never seen any of the director's other work, but I've heard she's very good. This movie IS NOT an example of this.

At first when I watched this film I thought it too slow. Since then, after watching it again, and thinking more on it, it's now become a favorite film. Each time I see Michelle Williams on screen, I gain more respect for her, and realize just how great an actor she is. Enthralled by her outrageously outstanding performance in 'Incendiary' made me come back to TTW again. She is hands down one of the finest performers of her generation. And IMHO this movie shows the wide range of Seth Rogen's talent, he should do many more films like it. One reviewer wrote of the film.. "Lou was willing to go through the trenches because he's sharing his life with Margot.. while she's just an activity for Daniel." Definitely watch it, and if you've already seen it... watch it again.
