Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.

The movie is your standard "outbreak" film: zombie, virus, alien, etc. People get taken over by a worm parasite on the other side of the world until it suddenly is hitting very close to home. NOTE: This movie is NOT about a virus, its about a parasite that takes over the host. Why they called it Viral, I'm not quite sure. There honestly isnt anything you havent seen before if you've watched any of these types of films before, only its been done better somewhere else. The two sisters come across as actual sisters and their acting is passable to decent. The love interest honestly felt out of place and wasted. I had hoped that with a wound he has from very early we would get some kind of nice "twist" but no, hes really there for no reason other than to prompt our main character to stop gawking and run away. Another wasted character is the father, who if you've seen him in other media you are probably expecting a good performance, but dont, as he's barely in the film. We have a very personal view of two sisters existing during this outbreak, one of which is probably one of the dumbest characters you'll see. FYI: if you get blood in any opening in your body, get checked out IMMEDIATELY.If you want a dumb popcorn flick where you can turn off your brain that has a touch of horror this might scratch that itch. However, if you're the type who cant turn off their brain and sees logical inconsistencies this movie will make your eyes roll out of the back of your head. There are just SO many things that are the epitome of stupid, done by our characters, by the script, by the government in the film, by other people in the film, its just so bad.IF you scare easily but get scared by horror movies but still like them, this might do it for you as there is actually little "horror". Theres a little body-horror and fake-jumpscares GALORE, and some VERY BAD CGI blood. There is a little bit of gross-out scenes of things like botfly removal or the effects of other parasites. I would pass on this one, its honestly not worth the time or effort unless you want to watch a brain-dead flick.

I originally gave this film a 6 but watched it again last night and upped it to 7.Its really a very good end of times / alien takeover movie. The photography is lush and reminiscent of the old days of Technicolor , acting is pretty decent, music is good and the special effects are really pretty gross out and convincing.As low budget horror scifi goes its actually a really good effort and well worth a rental.Was it an alien takeover or just a parasite never seen before on earth hmmm? - we will never know but the fact the contaminated all gathered to commune suggest intelligence of perhaps alien connotations in my mind which gives the film another hook for the viewer.Splendid entertainment and if it impresses my brother who is a real hardcore scifi horror fan then it must be hot half bad!

Not a bad little B flick! Low production, but not trying to be anything but entertaining and it had its moments. I had it on while I was multi-tasking, and it got me to stop and watch a few times. Acting was decent, too. Definitely worth the view.

First off, I have to say that the acting was the best part of this movie. What lets it down is a really poor script and lack of budget. I'll come to that mess in a moment, but here's a brief synopsis. The planet is taken over by a virus, spread by blood contact and the idea is loosely based around the botfly parasite and the even looser Toxoplasmosis parasite, which is able to control it's hosts, which happen to be rats and mice. Wrongly stated in the script, the parasite makes the rats attack the cats, when in reality the rats are attracted by a pheromone in the cats urine and therefore become easy prey. The cats eat the rodent and the parasite has a new place to reproduce. So, as you can imagine, I don't really have to say a lot more about this area of the plot. The movie is confined to a small cast and a localised area and much of the impression that this is a wide-scale world virus is mainly due to TV audio reporting and a bit of cgi. So much more could have been done to make this a fairly decent movie - mainly a better budget - another 'Outbreak; it is not! The movie only ever escapes the confines of a small housing community once, until the final scene, which is, in itself, disappointing. If you want to convey a worldwide epidemic/or pandemic, then maybe some foreign footage would be in order. This merely looks like the virus attacking a U.S street, containing a few houses. Despite good acting it fails to be convincing. There are various plot-holes, none more stupid than the kids holding a party in an abandoned house, when the whole world is in crisis and people have been told to stay indoors. The ending is poor and abrupt and strikes you of when you write stories as a kid, at school and run out of ideas, or get bored and you end it rather abruptly with lines like: "and it was all a dream", or "the world was saved, the end.". Is it the worst movie in the world - Nope! Would I watch this again? Nope! Judge whether to watch this based around the time you have left to live and how much value you place on the content of your remaining years.
