The movie is wildly uneven but lively and timely - in its own surreal way

It is interesting even when nothing much happens, which is for most of its 3-hour running time. Read full review

Story line aside, the picture is stylistically and cinematically a visual treat. I guess there are some viewers who don't go for the dark and gritty look, but that only adds to the demonic flavor of Guerrero's (Danny Trejo) mission to take out the former members of his Blackwater Gang. I'm not too clear on why Red Cavanaugh (Anthony Michael Hall) turned his back on brother Guerrero, so that could have been spelled out a bit better.I guess if you wanted to make a demonic Western, you couldn't pick a better pair of leads than Trejo and Blacksmith Mickey Rourke. The scary part is that they look pretty much the same off screen. I liked the idea of the six pine boxes gimmick, and if you weren't keeping track, the outlaws went down as follows - Baptiste, Ramos, Darko, Washington, Snake and Red. Guerrero's execution of his fellow travelers followed a fairly typical formula, and I thought there should have been a little twist for not making the midnight deadline, but he was only off by two minutes. The film did everything it could to prove it's opening narrative - "The real West was a heartless, lawless vampire pit".

Dead In Tombstone is a great hybrid of horror, action and the western. Basically a fast paced, shoot em' up supernatural revenge western that is a cross between Angel Heart and High Plains Drifter. This is one of the better direct to video releases that came out more recently that I think deserved a wide theatrical release. Dead In Tombstone certainly is much better than the sequel to Machete, Machete Kills which came out at around the same time as this. Danny Trejo is great in this and so is Mickey Rourke as Satan. Also Anthony Michael Hall(the nerd in every John Hughes 80's teen movie) is actually very good as a villain in this. Which should surprise anyone who remembers him from 80'S classics like The Breakfast Club and Weird Science. While it is true Danny Trejo will act in anything and appears in tons of stuff, much of which is crap that even Danny Trejo's presence can not save. Dead In Tombstone is much better than some of these IMDb users suggest. I found this film to be a blast and is very original and bad ass horror western with a great cast and great action. This is a lot better than whole lot of stuff in my opinion.

OK well i tell you what this movie could be bad you can't say it's bad because of rating or poster or people talking about this movie no way if you are fan of (Danny Trejo) or you like him this movie could be right for you if you don't know him very well give it try you might see him in all movies before in this movie he was leader Guerrero cold-blooded power grab that he get's killed from his gang member because they didn't want him, he was sentenced to hell confronted by Satan himself Mickey Rourke playing role with him again he they played together in role in point blank (1998) Once Upon Time in Mexico. both guys played together again in this movie. premise to that of the film Pale Rider (1985) Clint Eastwood Regarding Danny Trejo, Blackadder wrote, Trejo is good when in the right sort of film, and he was certainly adequate in this flick. He praised the film's photography and the "not bad" direction, concluding that while it was worthwhile to watch, it nevertheless "lacked in something to give it an edge, over other films of this type. Mickey Rourke said to Danny he has to kill 6 people put them in Coffin's so they can go to hell the action scenes were good when Danny trejo is shooting in bar, bar shoot out place the Action scenes were not to bad i love the action scenes not much exciting but still if i was you i would check this movie out if i was you this flick is action packed, fast placed, Danny Trejo looks like Undertaker but with the hat long hair Badass Looking Character holding 2 Awesome Old Fashion Revolver guns style killing people for Revenge in western this is movie that you should give it a try. this is like Crow (1994) but in different way movie not rip off from Crow but it is way different just similar movies together

Not really an original film title is it, mind you its not really an original film lets be fair. But should you go expecting anything fabulous from a straight to DVD western starring Danny Trejo and Mickey Rourke?.A badass group of outlaws rob a bank...as they tend to do. After they achieve this the group turns on their leader Trejo and guns him down...right down to hell. Yep that's right, just when you think it might be a simple cowboy flick you get a supernatural twist thrown in your face. So Trejo makes a deal with the overweight devil Rourke, the deal? to come back to the world of the living and kill the six other outlaws, six souls for the devil. He must do this within 24 hours to regain his soul and life otherwise he must endure a tubby Rourke torturing him forever, and that's along time. The plot just doesn't make much sense to me, why would the devil allow this one guy to have a chance at killing his murderers?. Surely in that age in the west there would be hundreds of deaths at the hands of bad people, does he allow everyone this deal? or was it just for his own amusement because he liked Trejo's character?. I just don't see why the devil would be that bothered about six souls when he probably gets ten times that every day, I guess I'm thinking into this too much. The plot is pretty similar to 'The Crow' really but lets be frank its a generic commonly used theme in most genres. The best thing about the film is the visuals I guess, it does look quite authentic with good locations and the town of 'Tombstone/Edendale' is actually quite big and impressive looking. It looks like they spent all their budget on the sets and costumes if you ask me. Gun slinging wise the action is crude and a bit hokey really, there is plenty of that old 90's John Woo style nonsense going on with no shortage of explosions...big explosions. Its also a bit too dark at times for me, way too much shadow as they clearly attempt a more dramatic artistic look, hey kudos for trying.I find the whole thing swings in appearance from TV movie level visuals to full blown movie level visuals. The horse/carriage chase sequence looked stupid simply because you can easily tell nothing is moving very fast, in fact they are all 'galloping' very slowly behind a very slow carriage hehe. Sometimes you can see the pistols aren't really doing anything and the actors are whipping them around a bit unconvincingly, oh and I love how they keep on shooting way past their six bullet limit. The devils lair of hell seems to be a simple medieval stonewalled basement with an open fire and the devil himself in Rourke looks very errr...normal but fat.Its definitely better than your average trashy flick and it could become a bit of a cult western thriller for sure. The acting is good enough, reasonable amounts of claret on display, decent atmosphere and some nice eye candy. It is of course completely cheesy, corny, clichéd and somewhat artificial throughout.5.5/10
