Raise Your Voice
A coming-of-age story centered around a small-town singer brokenhearted by the death of her brother in a car crash, who had secretly submitted her for a summer session at a performing arts academy in Los Angeles. In the academy, she experiences a whole new way of life in the big city, far from the small town lifestyle she's used to.

This movie is the proof that the world is becoming a sick and dumb place
Thanks for the memories!
Yo, there's no way for me to review this film without saying, take your *insert ethnicity + "ass" here* to see this film, like now. You have to see it in order to know what you're really messing with.
The story-telling is good with flashbacks. The film is both funny and heartbreaking. You smile in a scene and get a soulcrushing revelation in the next.
OK, so right after you left Terri starts making out on a rooftop with caterpillar guy and ghetto chick is angered. Then the whole crew goes to an open microphone night. Terri and caterpillar start singing and then Terri freaks out and runs outside because she saw a bright light and it reminded her of creepy jean jacket brother. Terri gets the solo in that one class and ghetto chick is angered. Then ghetto chick starts yelling at caterpillar while her shirt awkwardly falls down. Then Terri is like "im not good enough for this junk" and the teacher guys like Nah man. Next, Terri walks in on ghetto chick and caterpillar kissing so she starts crying again and runs off into her closet and rips a bunch of blank pages out of a diary. Some sad music happens and there's a montage of her walking on the beach in awful pants. (wow this movie is fast paste, all of this happened in 5 minutes). Then she has a heart to heart with the teacher "you have to take what's here and put it in here." That's what she said. Caterpillar shows up drunk and sassy black chick starts raging. Then she says "y'all need to relocate" and caterpillar and Terri go up to the roof and caterpillar passes out. Then Terri stays up there with him until morning for some reason. They make up and start singing something reminiscent of high school musical. The dad finds out that Terri is at the school and he silently rages. Again, you were definitely right about "hot" crazy guy. Then there is an awkward make out scene with crazy guy and scary should-have-Russian-accent chick that results in destruction on multiple drum sets. Now there is the final performance to see who will earn the scholarship. Ghetto chick opens with a musical number and a fail outfit. Next is crazy guy. He has ADD at the VERY least. scary chick is next, followed by sassy black chick who gets magic with it. Last is caterpillar and Terri but Terri's dad shows up and tries to make her leave right before she gets on stage! But then he ends up joining in the audience with the mom. Once she's on stage she sees her creeper brothers ghost sketchy style. Then she starts singing a quality song while caterpillar plays the guitar, and the whole scene is very similar to the end of high school musical. While singing she pops a squat which looked awkward. Then they start making out backstage. Sassy black chick wins the scholarship. Terri's dad turns into a soft one and starts talking about how proud he is and says he might send her there next year (there should be a raise your voice two!)
Firstly, I was quite impressed by this movie. The songs in it, well, they were mostly what I expected - not very deep but lively pop music. However the instrumental music was awesome and by this, I would give the gold to Denise and her violin. The storyline was cute and you could follow it without any difficulties. I think I'll take it out again when I'm sad or lonely, take an ice cream or yogurt to go with it and enjoy. Spoiler-consisting remarks: 1) Jay was incredibly...well..HOT. I couldn't stop staring at him in some scenes. Though I think the whole relationship drama, a little bit decreased his value. I think there should have been a scene somewhere, him telling Robin something like "I don't want to be together. We don't have a relationship." Just because at one moment we see him being slightly mad at Robin after he was supposed to bring a snack, then he is happy about seeing her, then he flirts with Terri and suddenly him and Terri form a couple. 2) For one, about the predictability, I found that the moment Denise talked about having difficult time with money at home, the faith of the scholarship was quite confident. However, when seeing the performances, I find that she indeed deserved it the most. 3) When Terri's dad went to see aunt Nina, I wondered, did he really leave in 5 minutes or how is it that he didn't notice no sign of Terri's stuff anywhere. 4) About clingy Robin, I felt she could have been more meaner. The slight kiss in the rehearsal room and then that's that. How come no payback? On the whole, I gave it a 7/10. Yeah, I'm surprised too how my hand didn't move to go lower. As a lone fish in the sea of movies, it's not a sinker but it doesn't compare up to many big accomplishments out there, but, out of teen movies, I would definitely point it out as my favourite, alongside "She's All That". Both sort of corny, sort of predictable but yet solid sweets.
Hillary Duff of CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN 1 and 2 stars in this plodding kids-oriented tale about a young singer who attends a summer music program at a private school in LA. Her father thinks she's visiting her aunt in the desert, since he is dead set against this. What might have been another SISTER ACT 2 or MR. HOLLAND'S OPUS, to name a couple of well-known movies about musically talented kids, proves to be a disaster. The director, who clearly was not up to the job, provides only bits and pieces of musical numbers and keeps the focus on Duff, who is not an actress and only a so-so singer. Frankly, she also does not look right for the part but I will be charitable here and keep mum about her physical failings. The big finale is a dud, due in no small measure to the cameraman and editor, who completely screw up the presentation of Duff's recital. A better script might have helped, too, as nothing happens in this movie that we haven't seen a hundred times before. Rita Wilson, Rebecca DeMornay and David Keith are wasted as the adults in Duff's life. Only John Corbett as one of Duff's instructors comes across as interesting and believable, but alas, he is a bit player here. Skip it.
I found this to be a really nice family film and I enjoyed it a lot. Hilary Duff really does have a nice singing voice and it really shows in this movie. I would recommend this movie to anyone. I think it has a good message. I really liked watching Hilary Duff in this movie and in all the other movies she has been in. I've been a huge fan of Hilary Duff ever since I first saw her as Lizzie McGuire. I really look up to her as a role model. She is very pretty and talented, I think the only reason why anyone would say anything bad about her is because there just jealous. I like her a lot and I don't care what anybody else says about her. I just see her as a very sweet and kind person, Someone I would like to have as a friend. So overall I found this movie to be much better than the critics say it was. I would recommend it to anyone.
