Such a frustrating disappointment
Great movie. Not sure what people expected but I found it highly entertaining.
The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;
It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.
Have said this before but it is worth repeating.You can opt to review a film when it comes out. Everything is fresh and new. The film has to compete not with posterity, not with the future, but simply with the other films of its release date.Or, to make things more complex, you can let a few years go by and check out the film a few times in the interim. Here the film is the same but the goalposts change. The film may or may not get better each time you see it. It is no longer competing with the films of its year but rather with all films of all years.I chose to use the second method to review Killers and frankly that makes all the difference.The two stars were at their peak. Neither one is actively playing leads in romcoms at this time. But they looked gorgeous.The story is cute, the script is cute, the locations are to die for and the direction is friendly.The film holds up remarkably well and my guess is it will continue to do so for years to come.
(11%) It may be said that all movies are products, particularly the bigger budget mainstream ones, well this is certainly the case here. The cynical producers of this masterpiece must have assumed that it would be money in the bank to aim their movie at both men and women, with the romantic comedy parts for the girls and the action parts for the guys resulting in both halves of the date going home happy. The main problem is that it's really not funny, with large barren sections of script void of any comedy, not even poor gags or broad humour, just nothing. The action is as by-the- numbers as humanly possible and some of the support characters wouldn't be out of place in a failed TV sit-com. As for the movies alcoholism themed running gag with Catherine O'Hara's character, what the hell were they thinking?
This man is responsible for directing the deplorable films, "Monster-in- Law" and "The Ugly Truth." His latest project is "Killers", which could have very possibly murdered his own career. He had it coming.But, if this director pulls through and keeps making more movies as bad as "Killers", or "The Ugly Truth", or "Monster-in-Law", the only title he'll earn is, "The M. Night Shyamalan of Romantic Comedies." May he, for the love of filmmaking, consider my thoughts.Beware of a director named Robert Luketic; he makes really bad movies.Read more here: http://localmoviereview.com/killers-movie-review/
