Too much of everything
To me, this movie is perfection.
Powerful
I am only giving this movie a 1 for the great cast, though I can't imagine what any of them were thinking. This movie was horrible
This is how you tell a story without throwing huge amounts of cash at it. The casting is superb, every actor clearly understands how real people behave and deliver dialogue. Only reason I gave it a 9 instead of a 10 is that it's a stand alone film and not a series or trilogy because I would have been front row on opening day of all the sequels. Perfect job by all concerned, a definite must see.
I enjoyed this film on initial release, a true grit of a film about revenge and possible redemption. I watched again recently and enjoyed so much felt need to write. It's not a comedy as such, but has such light moments "this is the recycling", "they spit roasted me on video", Citroën 2cv meets rap, that contrast with the darkness. It's an uncomfortable view but brilliant film to watch. The entire cast give brilliant performances, and to shot with a great lens on British life on the estates (I'm from one myself). But paddy Considine and Toby Kebbel are standout.I think it's pretty much a perfect film in my eyes. I'll never get bored of watching this film, despite the darkness. It's labelled as a slasher on some sites, but it's so much more...
Paddy Considine (who also co-wrote) stars as a former soldier out to get revenge on a group of petty thugs who victimized his mentally disabled brother. What starts out as a fairly light-hearted revenge film as Considine playfully taunts the thugs turns increasingly bleak as his violence escalates and the hopelessness of their situation becomes clear. Some fairly clever twists in the last act cast everything you've seen in a new light. Given the low budget and the working class surroundings, it ends up feeling like "Get Carter" directed by Ken Loach.
I was waiting a lot of time to see the movie. When I saw it, I loved it, but the only little thing I can complain about is that, I found the ending a very little disappointing when he makes the other man to stab him, and maybe there's a deeper thing to it, but I can't find it in this moment. It is one of the best revenge movies I've seen in all my life, maybe I should do a best revenge movies list here on IMDb, it may be way cool... Anyway, almost every aspect of this movie (directing, screen writing, acting...) is almost perfect. The actors are perfectly casted and do really well their job, the story is original, the direction is sublime, etcetera. There's one thing that a lot of people complain about a lot of movies that has this "resource", the plot twist. I think that the plot twist on this movie was really good, and it hits you in the face, or at least I think so. I really recommend it if you like revenge stories. P.S: Not as graphic as it seems
