Excellent, Without a doubt!!
Don't Believe the Hype
A waste of 90 minutes of my life
Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.
Germany might possibly be the no. 1 country in producing awful movies, but this one is probably the absolute pits: an overlong, seemingly endless gay joke told by director Michel "Bully" Herbig, whose brain apparently didn't make any development since age 9 and who probably would have roared about homosexuals presented with a pink star in the Third Reich. But there is comfort: When Herbig's dead, people will remember him as the most spineless director since Veit Harlan, a repulsive joke of a director who made a dirt "comedy" out of his childish ressentiments, a miserable existence without any wit, humor, or intelligence. I'm sure he's similarly fond of farting. He surely will make a movie out of it.
This movie is absolutely awful. I listened to the German edition and the English edition and I can't decide which is worse. The real problem with this movie and German comedy is that they treat it too serious. As I can understand German I find German comedians to be in general quite horrible when contrasted to American, or British humor.I guess what I dislike about this humor is that it is very cliché and predictable. For example the play on homosexuality is completely cliché and already done way too many times. In the end I could not watch either language of the movie to the end, and that is rare for me because I like watching movies.
This Film is not professional, but it's really good.It may have been some silly jokes in it,but I much prefer this nice German film, instead of an ugly American Film, which has whether no jokes and only stunts(which are mostly unreal and idiotic) or jokes which nobody can understand,or laugh about! "Der Schuh des Manitu" may not be a perfect Comedy, but it is the respectable and funny work of a respectable young man,who has made himself a name in Germany and elsewhere! Who talks ill about the movie has to make it better and you can ask a lot of people, who think very well of it.That includes me!!!!!
An absolutely pathetic attempt at comedy coming from Germany. Boring stock characters and situations are combined with jokes that maybe were funny in the 1960s or 70s. The idea with the Bavarian accents isn't new. The acting and the direction are decent at best. I must admit I think that there is always something sick about Bully Herwig that I can't really put my finger on. He definitely has problems imho. What is especially annoying about this comedy is the way it excessively exploits stereotypes or myths about homosexual men to create humour. Why this movie has been such a success is beyond me, maybe Mr. Herwig just has found out what the true nature of German humour is. Or maybe most people just watched it because the press said it's good and it was better than some other even more pathetic comedy movies from Germany.
