This movie is stupid. The worst part is that it's just so boring. They couldn't even make blood spurt in the right direction. The house being the space ship was stolen from Rocky Horror Picture Show. FAIL.

This is recommended to be seen by everybody. And many times. And (IMHO) this is suitable for even under 10 year old persons, if you 1st tell the humor ideology (maybe the document is needed to see before the film). Almost zero budget and the results where about "The Thing" class effects and gore. Best in its genre. Well, maybe Braindead is as good... ;)

Giving this title an accurate review is actually hard, and why is that? It's because this is a movie that you should look from two different perspectives really. The first one is the regular movie one. The movie is really cheap with cheap humor and cheap special effects. The second one is the "So good it's bad" one.Bad taste has always been a movie i enjoy watching, but i know what i get when i watch it. It's not Citizen Kane. But it is not Evil dead 2 either. Its a movie that falls short when it comes to either gore, horror or anything else. That is why i know i am pretty unbiased when it comes to giving this movie a six out of ten.The movie is crammed by everything in the horror genre. You have zombies that are chasing our heroes, however later we get the insight that they aren't zombies but aliens. Our heroes kills most of the zombies/aliens whom infested the town and move onto the big bad zombie/aliens boss. This is where the movie actually start to get good for me, before this the only skit i found really good was the guy that imitated a machine gun.This movie is not for everyone i can tell you that right now, its a movie where you have to enjoy a cheap B-movie. As i said, this is not Evil dead where a casual viewer would enjoy it for the comedy. This is a hardcore B-movie in the lines of Plan 9 from outer space or Robot monster.

Shot on a shoestring-budget, you can clearly see it is rather amateurishly shot (which is also excused by the fact that this is Jackson's directorial debut), but the gore effects are pretty impressive considering the low production values, even if it was made nearly three decades ago. The amateurish acting (except for the alien leader), along with the cinematography and special effects were done in true 80's style, back when movies didn't rely on CGI but instead on "real" special effects, which adds to it's charm. If this was made 10 years ago, it would've been much less charming. The movie is pretty simple, which means you can just turn your brain off and enjoy the movie for what it is; A comedy splatterfest with no gimmicks, or hidden messages. The gore is so over-the-top that you can't help but find it hilarious every time brains gets splattered all over the place. The film doesn't try to take itself serious in any way, which just further adds to it's comedic values. The character of Derek is the funniest one in the film, and he has some pretty hilarious one-liners; "I'm a Derek and Derek's don't run", "The headshot's the only true stopper", "I'm born again" (the last remark should be taken into context with the climax).Overall, not a bad movie, even though it may at first glance look like one. It's understandable that this movie has gained a cult-following. I would definitely recommend it to fans of gore and horror, if they haven't already seen it.
