I don't have all the words right now but this film is a work of art.
Good movie, but best of all time? Hardly . . .
It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional
It is not only a funny movie, but it allows a great amount of joy for anyone who watches it.
Wow, I'm actually surprised. I did not expect this movie to be so good since it isn't very known, hard to find, and seems to be of a low budget. I think I'm going to do some research and buy the DVD. Like all the other reviews say, the characters are very realistic. The acting is awesome. I definitely recommend this one.
It's so nice to see a film, where the main characters are kids, but are NOT those horrible 'Hollywood' version, of cherubic, 'perfect,' innocent little plastic nightmares.TWELVE AND HOLDING tells the story of what happens to the survivors (and friends of) a child's accidental murder - by other kids, doing a foolish prank. They all go through this process differently. Amongst them, the mother of the slain boy wants 'justice' i.e.: revenge,in the for of suffering, for the two boys who took her sons life. For the boy's surviving twin, he comes to grips with this event slowly - 1st, going to the juvenile dentition, where the two guilty boys are being housed. He gloats. He dances, making fun of what THEY'RE going through now. There are others whose lives are followed, and, it gives what, in Hollywood, would've been a treacly, saccharine tale, with obvious 'morals,' a much more humane tableau, in which to explore these issues.I was taught there are two ways to face something serious: to laugh, or, to cry. but, TWELVE AND HOLDING shows there's a third way. To laugh AND cry.I highly recommend this movie to anyone who wants to see a well-done film, with a terrific cast (to be honest, I work in this (film) business, and, in Hollywood, it's VERY rare for a child to actually be able to 'ACT.' they're usually just used to be 'cute,' and, I can't stand that. The young cast members are not that type. They can hold a scene. They can make you believe).
This film is without a doubt the worst train wreck I have ever seen. Specifically the story lines of the girl and the fat boy. The girl falls in love with a man who is much older than her and tries to have sex with him! She even gets naked in one scene! This is a very unrealistic depiction of a 12 year old child. The boy, who decides to lose weight be eating healthier, tries to get his mother to eat healthier as well. Yet for some reason he forgets his father, who is quite obviously on the large side as well. And when his attempts to improve his mother's eating habits fail what does he do? Well of course he locks her up in the basement, slipping her a few apples and carrots once in a while. Isn't that what you would do? (I certainly hope not!) If you value your sanity, never watch this movie. And if you happen to see a friend of yours has a copy, do them a favour by breaking it. They will thank you for it in the future.
I found this movie really interesting, it shows the life of three 12 year old kids with great sincerity, the three kids are great and Jeremy Renner performance is outstanding. I would say this movie could become a classic in the future. Hope to see more kids movies like this, although you don't find a great story and great acting usually together in this kind of movies. I highly recommend it. I would like to say something about the end: when the kid kills his brother's "killer", it was a big shock, I think the kid improvised everything, he wasn't planning it for a long time. I found this a really original part of the script.
