Pretty Good
I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.
A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny
I went into this expecting "The Cell 2," a movie with the beautiful and desolate mindscapes, the amazing costumes (one of my favorite parts of the first), and the devious serial killer. They got one out of three. They tried to do the mindscapes, but they just looked like cheap CGI thrown over a green screen. The acting wasn't bad, but it wasn't good, either. Same with the story. The idea of the serial killer was pretty brilliant, but ideas are cheap, it's how they're pulled off that matters most, and this was not done terribly well. The costuming was decent, but was something you'd expect out of Seven or Saw. The same with most of the setting (not much time is spent in the mental world). In other words, The Cell 2 becomes a poor clone of countless other clever-serial-killer thrillers.
To be honest this film has a great concept but unfortunately it was not very well executed, with the exception of Frank Whaley the rest of the cast never played their parts very well, the female lead only played her part well when she was striking sexy poses towards the end of the film and the rest of the cast mostly gave stone face performances but if it were not for the concept alone this would be the worst movie ever made.Being a sequel it bares virtually nothing in common with the first film starring Jennifer Lopez, although J-Lo makes a cameo appearance at the beginning of the film in the form of a clip from the first film, it follows its own storyline about a psychic FBI woman who teams up with a town sheriff to track down a killer that kills his victims and then revives them again. On the plus side I won't be begging for my 90 minutes back but I won't go out of my way to recommend this film even though it does have a great concept, however its mainly the bad acting that ruins it.
This movie was actually pretty good.It is not really a sequel to the Cell so much as just borrowing the name. You don't have J-Lo's character in this one. The actress you do have is a lot hotter than J-Lo, actually. You also have a pretty effective villain, and some good action scenes. The "inside the mind" shots are not as elaborate as the ones we saw in the original. This is a Direct to DVD thing, after all, with a much more limited budget. There are parts that strain credulity- the whole scene at the end with the Helicopter. Wow, the killer is a cop, and EMT AND a qualified helicopter pilot! But overall, the script is tight, the characters interesting and it was fun to watch.
Just like the summary, the MacGyver TV show was better. It had a better storyline, plot summary and special effects. For this movie to be have the same name as the first cell, it's quite a cheap knockoff of the original. The premise behind the serial killer was cool, but that was about it. Personally, I'd rather watch livestock hump. Thank goodness this was a DVD rental. If we had paid upwards of 20 buck to see it in the theater (40 with popcorn and soda) I would have either demanded my money back or be serviced by an Albanian midget as compensation. Does that sound absurd to you? Yes it does. It is as absurd as this movie remotely being linked to the first one...---end of line---
