Undescribable Perfection
A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.
After playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.
A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.
A good pseudo-history is one that can squeeze into the known facts of history. This one pretends it does. The film opens in 1818 with young Abe having to shoot his own zombie parents. It then jumps to 1865 with news of a zombie infestation at Fort Pulaski. Abe (Kent Igleheart), while searching for the words for his Gettysburg dedication, leads a group of secret service men to the zombie infested fort. At this point the film becomes similar to "Dawn of the Dead" with the fort replacing the shopping mall. While here Lincoln meets Stonewall Jackson, poorly portrayed by Don McGraw in a cheap comically fake beard. The blood splatter was good and fell on the camera, although those scenes tended to have the color washed out and the blood was unrealistic. In one scene Lincoln is killing a bevy of zombies by swinging his reaper, although the zombies appear to be computer generated. Was that the prostitute using a hoe to kill zombies? Nice touch. This is a low budget production filmed on location in Savannah Georgia. 6 stars on the Asylum scaleNo f-bombs, sex, or nudity.
After a decapitating introduction, we switch to what we later learn is young Abraham Lincoln. The future US President is chopping wood. Next, he chops off his mother's head. This is because Mrs. Lincoln has become a snarling zombie, with a very long tongue. Quite likely, she wants to eat young Abe. You did not know this, but when he was a mere boy of nine in Indiana, President Lincoln battled zombies. Many years later, during the American Civil War, zombies are infecting both United and Confederate State citizens. Grown up and knowledgeable about the zombie affliction, President Bill Oberst Jr. (as Abraham "Abe" Lincoln) must sharpen his blade...This looks like writer-director Richard Schenkman and his producers caught the buzz surrounding the attention-getting "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" (2012) and rushed this similarly-titled story out to scare unsuspecting viewers. It's frighteningly bad. In the leading role, Mr. Oberst often reads his lines with the tones necessary to maintain some dignity. Sometimes, he seems like the rest of the cast; confused about what their characters are supposed to be doing from line to line, and from scene to scene. Jason Vail has the most interesting part. Presidential girlfriend Baby Norman (as Mary Owens) and her likewise sexy daughter look laughably anachronistic.** Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies (5/29/12) Richard Schenkman ~ Bill Oberst Jr., Baby Norman, Jason Vail, Don McGraw
I'm sure this quickie piece of garbage was made to ride the tails of the barely enjoyable Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter. The difference: This was made with a tenth of the budget and about a billionth of the talent. An absolutely horrible film, it might have been palpable if it was funny - which is isn't. Lame acting. Horrible special effects and one of the dumbest stories (its a stretch to call it this) ever put on film. I was surprised that this lame effort at making a tax break film wasn't done by that pantheon of horrible films, The Asylum. I can't warn the reader enough: AVOID THIS WORTHLESS PIECE OF CELLULOID! It may save you the brain cells I lost wasting my time with this.
Prologue: Story line and Actors were nice. but the concept was not. Like sometime you will feel that children are playing Zombie game in yard. Truth: When they coming inside the one order to open the main gate all zombies are standing outside like skeleton. When they fire on ZOMBIE like a cartoon hold the gun for 2-3 second then give chance to zombie to attack. Sometime i wonder what are they waiting for why they don't shoot. And when the rifle is out of ammo they just leave it with zombie they don't try to hit it on it. Music: Coming to sound fx and music. SFX was good but sound is like old Charlie Chaplin movie one track music in all movie is repeated again and again. Simply like a newbie edit home video with a single soundtrack. The scene concept sight was wonderfulI have watched and i like zombie movies but this one was awful. Sorry to say.
