Wrecked

A man awakens in a car wreck at the bottom of a steep cliff. He can't remember who he is or how he got there, but a report over the radio fills in some of the blanks, as it describes a violent bank robbery and names a perpetrator who happens to be sitting dead in the back seat.

I read many other reviews saying this movie is slow. How could it be fast? The wrecked man had two broken legs, was starving and thirsty. Not every story can be like the fast and the furious: this story HAD to be slow.I loved Brady's performance in "The Jacket"... in this role he is even more skinny, fleshless; virtually silent (one of the few American film I understood without subtitles :)I also disagree with reviewers who say that this should have been a good short. Definitely not! Viewer needs time to enter the situation, empathize with the character, realize who he thinks to be, who he is not and so onSometimes we need to slow down, don't we?****/5

I was in a very brutal car wreck 9 months ago that broke my arm and shattered my hip (acetabular fracture). This movie seems to imply that Adrian Brody's character had similar injuries to mine and also threw in a really busted up knee! Seeing him trapped in the car and how he played the injury to his lower body made my breath catch in my chest on a few occasions. I would say I ran through similar emotions to him while trapped in my car, and with that regard I think not only was it well acted but seemed very true to what would happen in real life. All told this was a very claustrophobic and capably done suspense film. Anyone who has suffered a severe physical trauma in any type of accident probably had the same visceral reaction that I did. The plot twists were decent, but Brody selling the scenes while trapped in the car were frighteningly good.

I read a few of the reviews on here about this movie, and they gave the impression that this movie left too many unanswered questions and the ending was not satisfying. I don't know what questions these reviews were referring to, but for me the ending was pretty much self explanatory. The acting was brilliant, the direction, the location and scenes were all done really well. The story was adequately thought provoking too.To sum it up, the movie felt like an experience, not just a visual entertainment. 7 out of 10 for me!Having said that it's not a movie for everyone, if you like movies where you can feel the character's environment then you'll like this, but if you prefer lots of dialogues, lots of people and lots of action then you probably wanna watch something else.

The premise of Wrecked seemed near brilliant to me. I loved a good mystery, a dark thriller, and I think a one man show done right is brilliant. Consider Ryan Reynold's in Buried and then put it side by side and you'd see this for what it really is and that is a complete mess marred by boredom and a completely predictable mystery that should be anything but. The film drags through and often makes no sense as to why he does the things he does. I couldn't say exactly what would have made the script that much better but the story in its current form really falls flat.I think given the right role Academy Award winner Adrien Brody really impresses. But it really does need to be the right role. I just found him melodramatic and over-acted in this performance. I mean a one-man show like this could make or break an actor and while it started out okay, by the time he gets out of the car, I just didn't care for his character anymore. The special effects were decent for the damage done to his body during the accident so that helps with the performance but simply put...not enough.Canadian film maker Michael Greenspan might not have the experience required to handle a potentially heavy handed script like this one. You can really only watch Brody crawl around in circles once let alone for the better part of the entire film. The other major misstep is the mystery where Brody tries to figure out who he is and why he is where he is. The story is simply too predictable and I knew almost immediately where the idea was heading. I like to be kept guessing and I like a thriller to really truly thrill me. Brody's performance is not completely a waste and neither is the film but there is a ton of potential here that gets completely tossed somewhere in the transition. Skip this. 5.5/10
