Fresh and Exciting
Don't listen to the Hype. It's awful
Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.
There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.
Donald E. FauntLeRoy (David Wolper's North and South, Book IV) directs with his acclaimed stellar style and delivers a fine entry in the Anaconda saga. Acting as cinematographer as well, he creates a environment of overwhelming dread and stark raving fear as he uses Romanian locations to stunning effect. Working from a script that is both intelligent and exciting, FauntLeRoy coaxes superb performances from a renown cast of actors, some of whom are returning after their respective triumphs in the previous Anaconda film. With an inspiring score by Peter Meisner, pulse pounding and atmospheric, this is an incredibly intense motion picture experience. Not for the faint of heart, the thrills never let-up and some of the set piece sequences will likely sear fantastic imagery into collective psyche of any audience. Probably the best sequel to the original Anaconda, the film is certainly superior to most sequels and offers a cautionary environmental message that gives it a bit more gravitas. There are indeed rampaging anacondas featured but Anacoda: Trail of Blood rises above the average horror film with production values seldom seen in movies of this type. The special effects are breathtaking at times and the shocks are unrelentingly intense. Simply one of the best horror films produced in 2009.
Can't recall if I've seen Anaconda 3. From the scenes in the movie, it looks like a direct sequel. Main charter, Amanda Hayes, who is trying to hunt down the snake has flash backs in the form of movie clips from the last film.John Rhys-Davies plays the big villain in this movie who hires a mercenary team to track down a serum I think they were working on for him in part 3 that will cure his cancer. I wonder how much dough Rhys- Davies is making on just literally appearing in the movie for a few minutes in these straight-to-Video masterpieces. It would seem he only has to give up one weekend to film his parts and he gets such a generous credit, mostly used to draw in either his Indi fans or his Slider fans, the latter of which I know him best from. Hope it's a lot. Telling you the CGI is crap is not saying much, cause what else would you expect from a movie like this, but I must admit watching that Computer Generated snake eat people was just too cool. The Movie moves fast, which I usually like, but I feel the ensemble cast was too big for the fast paste. I care nothing for the mercenary team sent out to find the serum and kill any witness, or the exception team that goes looking for the group of people doing experiments in an eastern European forest, but as I was saying before, the movie's awesomeness comes from watching the snake feed on these people for 90 mins. They had the elements to created more 3 dimensional characters, like with the mercenaries and the exception team being on different sides, but having to come together for a common enemy, but the filmmakers chose to focus more on the snake being the main source of evil. The anaconda had a lot of food to eat but none of it had substance to it. Guess that's why he was always so hungry.Poor Anaconda franchise. Once a huge theatrical release now just something recommended on Netflix hoping to get selected. Maybe they can lore JLo away from the Idol chair to make a similar deal that Rhys- Davies has, or at least Ice Cube.Like the fast paste but not enough built up in the horror to keep me glued to my TV
This movie was not as bad as expected. The acting wasn't Oscar worthy but for a Sci-Fi produced film, most of the cast gave it all they had. Speaking of the cast, there were plenty of characters in this film, that's for sure. Maybe a bit too many. So much so that the two other people I saw this with kept asking, "Well, who are these people?" or "Where was this guy in the movie before now? I never seen him before now!" And it's true. There were so many characters and competing story lines that it was hard to keep track of exactly what the heck was going on sometimes.Another problem with cheesy horror films like this is that the writers have characters do the dumbest things just for the sake of moving the plot along or for an individual character to serve as an easy kill for the monster. There are a lot of instances in the movie where this plot device is used. It shows a serious lack of creativity on the writers' part. It makes the characters seem so cliché. And when they continue to do stupid stuff in situations where they should be more cautious or just use plain ol' commonsense, it's hard for the viewer to care when they end up in the mouth of an 100-foot anaconda.Other things to note: Gore is not too bad although special effects overall are the worse. The film moves along at a consistent pace from start to finish and the ending hints at a sequel, but I'm not so sure that's a good idea. From the first Anaconda on up to this latest effort, there hasn't been anything new added to the franchise. And unless writers start actually being creative, there probably won't be anything added to the franchise that justifies another movie, which might explain why the major film production companies stopped after the second Anaconda film.
Aaaargh! The dummy Anaconda spoils the party again! So many times while watching this movie, I felt - if only the damn snake could look more realistic! Probably low budgeting forced the creators to not create them as good as they looked in the 1997 JLO starrer or even the 2004 one? But at least they could have been careful with it's size. Some scenes show the freak snake to be long, consequent scenes show it to be shorter, and then long again! The growth hormones seem to have a mind of their own :) If not for this dumb snake & its crazy body, Anaconda 4 could have done decently at the box office.Crystal Allen does a better job in the sequel to Anaconda 3(2008 release), with some nice action scenes too(towards the end). Rest of the actors have small-bit roles, so none of them really linger in memory. I really felt John Rhys-Davies who plays the evil billionaire Murdoch(in Anaconda 3 too) had lot of potential in his role but the makers mess up again. Pity his talent gets chewed for nothing! Majority of the actors here, except maybe for Crystal Allen and Calin Stanciu(an explorer in the jungle), have this blank, disinterested expression on their face whenever they see mangled bodies or encounter the monstrous serpent itself. It's possible they had other talents beside acting for being here? Hmmm, I wonder what those might be....Verdict: Better work than the prequel but still a shoddy show. I think now is a good time to lay the Anaconda series to rest before more producers' money and pants get swallowed alive :p
